Name: Green Thunder
Class: Strike Class
Height/Weight: 35 feet from head to tail
45 Foot wing span
550 lbs
Island Origin: The Woods That Howled
Diet: Forest dwelling animals, fish
Physical Description: As a newly discovered sub-species of the Skrill, the Green Thunder resembles the Skrill in many aspects. It shares the triangular head with shark-like gills on its neck, large body build, and massive looking wings with three wing claws rather than four at it's joints, and prehensile tail with spines. It shares the expressive crown-of-spikes along the back of its head and three spines on its chin. But, it does have a few distinguishing features of its own. For one, in terms of size it is smaller than the Skrill (which are proportionally the size of a Flightmare) but has a longer body length and has more of a serpentine body, lacking any form of legs from years of evolution. Rather, it gets around using its wing-claws or slithering around akin to that of the Slitherwing. It's nose horn is slightly larger and more sharply covered, has three 2 foot long spines on its back, and the rows of tail spines are somewhat smaller but no less sharper. What also is different about the spines is that they are all bone rather than metallic like the Skrill due to the fact it does not use lightning like that of its larger cousin. Unlike its cousin, the Green Thunder comes in array of hues of green, from dark forest green to lime green accented with browns and tans or the occasional dull yellows, better to blend in with vegetation and forested areas rather than cold, snowy locations. The eyes tend to be some hue of red with a cat's eye pupil.
Personality: Green Thunders still share the aggressiveness of their Skrill cousin and can be just as vicious if provoked. But, unlike their larger Skrill cousins, Green Thunders are a lot more skittish and cautious, preferring to observe from afar before acting. Unfortunately, with their aggressive nature they are unrelenting dragons who are easily insulted and are usually determined to attack those who provoke their rage. And their skittish nature also means they're not so quick to trust, but when that trust is earned they are known to be extremely loyal and protective while also being intelligent dragons.
Abilities:
Sonic Blasts/Echolocation: Rather than the use of lightning, Green Thunders have evolved to use powerful sonic blasts. The Green Thunder's body has come to create a specialized system to regulate and modulate sound waves, especially those itself can make and achieves this with a far greater lung capacity than its Skrill cousin. In a sense, it shares a similar modulating system as the Thunderdrum but their blasts are far more concentrated and concussive than that of the Tidal Class dragon, with the Green Thunder capable of making a sonic waves of varying size and potency, simply being able to stun a viking or dragon, knocking a full grown viking off their feet, or cracking stone. This sonic blast and its roar tend to sound somewhat like thunder, being the main source of its "Thunder" aspect in its name. But, Green Thunders can create lower, non-lethal frequencies as a secondary navigational ability to bounce off solid surfaces when it is dark, when in a cave, unknown location, or foggy places, especially their home island of The Woods That Howled.
Speed/Agility: Though similar tot he Skrill, Green Thunders are somewhat slower than their larger cousins although they are still more than capable of giving a Skrill a run for their fish. These dragons are exceptionally swift when diving and their streamlined bodies can reduce air drag, the only difference is they lack the additional ability to ride lightning, making them slower. But, they more than make up for this in terms of being exceptionally agile and flexible dragons. They are capable of making sharp turns, navigating narrow places, and performing complex contortions and maneuvering in tight places.
Camouflage/Stealth: On land, Green Thunders excel in blending into vegetation, especially forested areas. Their palettes of green, browns, tans, and dull yellows are excellent for hiding against leaves, shrubbery, trees, and more. Additionally, they are known to rather silent hunters, usually moving with little to no sound often by their slithering method of movement and cautious nature.
Senses: The Green Thunder is nothing close to a Tracker class dragon, but it is known to have an excellent sense of smell, being able to track a three day old scent with relative ease and is capable of picking up a scent from a mile away. Much like the Thunderdrum, the Green Thunders are actually mostly deaf, which means they rely heavily on vibrations from the air around them or low frequencies, using a modified lateral system that works similar to that of a shark, with a series of tubes beneath the scales that are filled with a gel-like liquid and lined with sensory cilia which in turn are connected to the nerve endings, allowing the Green Thunders to pick up vibrations, especially those they give off using echolocation. A Green Thunder's hearing is terrible, but the ear ducts have adapted to be able to pick up on extremely low to low frequencies, allowing them to react to sounds from 25-100 hertz if their sight proves ineffective. The Green Thunder's sight though is like the Skrill's, being able to see well enough to see through fog to an extent and is known to have excellent night vision.
Stamina/Endurance/Combat: The Green Thunder is somewhat weaker than a Skrill in terms of strength, which is why it relies on speed, agility, and its senses when it comes to combat, using these to outmaneuver and trick their foes. It much prefers drawing its opponents into an element of surprise but will make use of its senses and smaller form to its advantage. At the same time, their stamina can be noted to be on the level of the Skrill and can hold its own against several opponents, being take a fair bit of damage before it begins to show signs of needing to back off.
Intelligence: One other thing to note about Green Thunders is that they are intelligent dragons. Despite not being able to hear very well, they do understand gestures and are known to have excellent memory. They are also more than capable of formulating plans and drawing dragons into their areas of expertise such as forests.
Weaknesses:
Mostly Deaf/Reliance on other Senses: The Green Thunder is mostly deaf, which means it doesn't really respond to being called or other sounds unless it is a low frequency and it often relies on its sense of smell, sight, and detecting vibrations through its lateral system.
Ferocity: Though they are skittish and cautious, Green Thunders can be extremely aggressive when surprised or provoked, and they can become unrelenting to the point of going overboard if pushed too far. They take time to calm down but this ferocity can be used against them to draw them out of their forest lair and causing them to lose all rational thought.
Camouflage: Their camo works more for forested areas or vegetation. If flying out in the open, against the clouds, or ocean they are easily spotted and leave themselves rather exposed.
Strength: Green Thunders are averagely strengthened for a dragon related to the Skrill, therefore they do not rely much on brute strength as their larger cousin and prefer more use with their agility and speed or cunning to overcome a challenge.
Sonic Blasts: First, the Green Thunder does not have a fire blast of any kind. Rather, they make use of sonic blasts which are weaker than a Thunderdrum's and cover a smaller area compared to the Tidal Class. They do not require many individuals and are more concussive based than anything.
Training:
Green Thunders can be trained, but they are very difficult. Their cautious and skittish nature make them rather difficult to get close to, much preferring to keep some distance between themselves and another. But, should one get close, they will find these dragons are not very trusting, their respect must be earned from one of two ways: proving one'e self through a skill of combat (usually meaning one has to wrestle this dragon) or convincing it that you mean no harm. If someone were to save this dragon's life however, they are forever grateful towards that person or dragon and would be a loyal ally regardless of who that person is.
