Dragon's Edge
HALLGRIM OHLSEN
age 17 | gender Male | Alignment Chaotic Neutral |
Group Berk | SEXUALITY Ace/aro | Profession Fisherman/Scout |
PERSONALITY,
[Positive] Hallgrim is, if nothing else, resourceful. He's quick, smart, and light on his feet, which makes him a great scout and thief. He's also fairly optimistic - to the point of being a bit naive and silly - but hey, at least he's trying. Hallgrim was raised as a fisherman, and his skills tying knots and navigating the open ocean are nothing short of professional.
[Negative] For all his friendliness, Hallgrim is mistrustful. Due to his immaturity at times, nobody really trusts him with sensitive information, and so he's made a habit of eavesdropping on anyone and everyone. He constantly puts himself down and insists that he isn't really all that great. Not only that, but he's a pyromaniac, and though he tries to hide it, his first instinct to solving a problem is to set it on fire and let it crumble into ashes.
[Overall] Hallgrim is your classic 'orphaned kid'. Spending most of his life on the streets of Berk, he's been forced to MacGyver his way through life in order to make ends meet. He's quick, sneaky, and cunning, and while optimistic, he eavesdrops on conversations that he probably shouldn't be listening to. He's a sailor by trade, but hates the ocean (and Scauldrons especially). He now serves as a scout and stableboy on Berk, though he wishes that people would let him take the fight to the Dragon Hunters instead of leaving him out of the action.

HISTORY,
Hallgrim was consigned to an unfortunate fate from childhood. Born before the dragon wars ended, he spend his childhood working upon a fishing boat and fending off dragons. At the age of five, he witnessed his parents be brutally ripped apart by a pack of Scauldrons, and has feared the species ever since.
After that, he was left to live on the streets. Nobody particularly had the resources, time, or patience to take him in, so he spent (and still spends) most nights in the Mead Hall or underneath a propped-up boat. He took all the jobs that nobody else wanted - scrubbing the deck, cleaning out the sheep pens, and that sort of thing - just to make ends meet, and when money came up short, he took to stealing what he needed.
The biggest and most expensive thing he ever stole was his weapon - a glaive. He wanted to stand out from the other villagers, to do something new, to invent a new, uncrushable fighting style. When a merchant came into town with that exotic weapon, he saw his opportunity. He didn't have nearly enough money to purchase it, so he wound up stealing it in the middle of the night, stashing it in the woods and practicing for months to come, fearful that if he brought it into the village, someone would recognize it. It wasn't until after the Red Death was slain that Hallgrim finally brought his glaive into the village. To his relief, nobody recognized it, and he invented a cover story to explain its existence.
After people began bonding with dragons, he quickly realized that he liked interacting with them a lot more than he liked interacting with people. Since then, he's taken up a career as a scout and stableboy. He regularly petitions to get a better job, but is denied or ignored every time - and he's starting to get a bit fed up with it all. Everybody agrees that he's still too naive and young to go out and do the serious jobs, and he's determined to prove them wrong.
