A PERFECTLY CONSTRUCTED ALIBI
This was all just practicality, it was common sense, when you were proposing something to someone you brought something to soften the edge of the question, that was all, the painstaking care he'd taken over the week that he'd spent off and on making the damn things were just...This was not what everyone kept saying it was, he was not doing that with Dagur of all people. This was a gift. For a friend. To help gain favor for what he wanted to ask. The island was perfect after all, it was a lucky find while taking a flight to Berserker territory previously, situated perfectly between Berk and the sister islands that Dagur called home, and why shouldn't they have a joint outpost between them? They were close allies. This was practical.
He was more than a little proud of his work on these twin axes, each one was made as close to identical as humanely possible, the only difference was the dragons that had been painstakingly inscribed along the blades, one bore a Skrill, the other bore a Night Fury, and even though the chief wouldn't dare admit it, they were meant to be symbolic of more than just the alliance between the Berserkers and Berk.
He felt inexplicably nervous as he spotted the tiny trio of island coming into view, letting out a soft breath and shaking his head, this was stupid, why was he this nervous? It wasn't like he was...He shook that thought away, ignoring the rumbling from Toothless as the dragon grumbled out an amused sound, "you already have a solid alliance with them...Why the gift?" He knew, Hiccup knew he knew, that was what made the jab all the more frustrating, "because I'm trying to...To..." He trailed off, "to get him to lend aid in this outpost between us!" He added a little too quickly, nerved making his words sharper as the Isle of the Living came into view.
"If you say so, is it customary for one chief to spend a week slaving over a gift for another? That sounds more like a Be-" Hiccup silenced the thought with a glance that spoke volumes, and the Night Fury only chortled softly and shook his head as they came down for a landing in the heart of the Royal District. It felt normal coming here, he realized, maybe even a bit like a second home...He didn't pursue that thought any further.
"You behave...Alright?" He shot Toothless a glance, which earned an innocent look from the black dragon as his rider slid off his saddle, clicking out the walking cane he used when the limp he'd developed in his left leg got worse, it wasn't needed some days, but other days when the weather shifted abruptly as id had done today, the limp was especially sore, owed to the fact that the joint of his knee was still very much intact. He waved for Toothless to follow him as he made his way to the entrance of the large structure where Dagur lived, hoping maybe he wouldn't have to go on a wild goose chase to find him.
