this is a dangerous game we play Seraphine Devereux wore a concerned frown as she disembarked from her boat - a rare expression to appear on her face. Wordlessly, she gestured to Amabella - the dragon companion that refused to leave her side - to follow her, and simply hoped the dragon would listen. Amabella was, after all, as stubborn as she herself. In her arms was the thing that drew her to this place - a single dragon egg, found abandoned on a shipwreck. She had heard tales of dragon riders, and locating this egg had made her decide she couldn't put off this particular stop on her travels any longer.
"Caution," she whispered in French, her native tongue, mostly to herself. "A new place... Unfamiliar faces." Though the words were indeed for herself - she was known for being reckless, and the last thing she needed was this going awry - she heard Amabella chirp in with what, over their year of travelling together, Seraphine had come to understand as agreement with her sentiment. They stood together, not far from the shore, waiting for a sign of where to go. Perhaps someone who spoke her language would happen across her - she let out a laugh at the ridiculous notion - and she would be spared struggling through yet another language she barely understood. She was passable in many by now, but she was still clearly foreign, and preferred not to embarrass herself.

### words "Hiccup" - "Toothless" A PERFECTLY CONSTRUCTED ALIBI Flying meant that he didn't have to acknowledge or think about any of the problems going on below, those were problems for future Hiccup, for the Hiccup that wasn't patrolling Berk more times than necessary on his dragon's back, the one that wasn't also pinwheeling through the sky and just enjoying doing what they did best. He would deal with ground problems later, for now he was just enjoying the wind rushing past his face, the way his hair whipped wildly, to where it would probably be a nightmare when he did land, the only thing that had distracted him from his goofing off was the sight of an unfamiliar ship touching ground on the shore, along the beach rather than the docks, which wasn't entirely odd for a foreign ship, but it was still strange enough to draw the Chief and his dragon towards the newcomer.
A few things stood out to him upon first glance, first, she seemed incredibly confused, or at the very least on edge, and second was the thing she was carrying in her arms, it was familiar and brought up memories of what could have been a fiasco thanks to Snotlout. He tried not to let the unease seeing one of those eggs show on his face as Toothless touched down, throwing sand up a bit before Hiccup slid from his saddle, "welcome to Berk!" He gave a friendly wave while the black dragon beside him crept forwards, giving her a sniff over curiously before turning to her dragon to do the same, the Night Fury gave a soft croon in greeting, "I'm Hiccup, chief of Berk, this nosy reptile is Toothless...What are you called?" The dragon threw his rider and indignant look at the comment before stepping back.
He hadn't even considered that maybe she wasn't from around here, though the make of her boat didn't match up to anything he'd ever seen in their waters before, or at least not often, so his initial instinct was to speak his own language to her, without considering that maybe she was from farther off than he assumed. He needed to find out where she got that egg though, because it could go sour fast if there was an angry mother out there missing it.

this is a dangerous game we play Seraphine didn't entirely understand the words that were being spoken to her. She caught 'welcome' and what sounded like names, but she couldn't be certain. She assumed based on his actions, however, that this newcomer wasn't hostile, and spoke in rapid-fire French in the desperate hope that he spoke it. "My name is Seraphine," she began, "my companion is Amabella, and I have come here in search of assistance." She gestured to the egg in her arm with her free hand. She wanted to continue, but she couldn't be certain he understood a single word that had left her mouth thus far, and so she settled for holding out her hand to the dragon that accompanied him, unsure of the etiquette involved with interacting with such a creature. She hadn't had much experience with dragons aside from her tagalong, and the egg she carried. And she was fairly certain Amabella was an outlier - she had yet to have another dragon following her from island to island across the sea, after all.
Amabella, meanwhile, made a curious noise towards the other dragon. It was unlike anything either of them had ever seen or even heard of, despite the many places they had visited as they charted their course so far. Amabella was almost as curious as her friend by nature, and when the pink dragon was sniffed she responded by sniffing back.

### words "Hiccup" - "Toothless" A PERFECTLY CONSTRUCTED ALIBI Well that was lucky, he supposed, when he heard her pipe up in a language he knew, there were a couple he'd taken the time to learn while the rest of the kids were busy training to fight, which paid off in situations like this where he was one of the few people on Berk who could actively engage with foreigners, "sorry...We don't get many visitors from your neck of the woods, so I just kind of assumed there wouldn't be a language barrier...Well...I guess there isn't one really..." He trailed off when he realized he was rambling, and when she held out the egg to him he became very interested, not hiding the apprehensive look in his eyes this time, "few questions...Where on earth did you find this thing..." He leaned in a little closer, "and are you absolutely certain it was abandoned?" He sounded almost nervous asking that, glancing behind her like he expected something.
"Changewings, that's what that egg is, they really come after you when you swipe their eggs..." He laughed a little, reaching to run a careful hand over the egg, "they're fascinating dragons though, they can become virtually invisible...They also spit a highly corrosive acid..." He chuckled, giving her a glance that asked for permission to hold the egg, "Serana will want to have a look, if you're alright with it, she tends to care for most of our eggs and babies." He glanced to the side as he spoke, chuckling when Toothless came and bumped his nose against her hand, licking over her fingers and making a friendly greeting sound, "that's a Death Song, how'd you two meet?" He looked curious as he eyed the pink dragon at her side, "she's beautiful..." He chuckled, reaching out a careful hand to the larger dragon, "you've got very unique colors, haven't you? Serana will want to see you too!" He grinned back at Seraphine, "like I said, welcome to Berk, I'm Hiccup, chief of this village." He gestured for her to follow if she wanted, "you're welcome to stay as long as you like."

this is a dangerous game we play Seraphine let out a sigh of relief. "You understand. It's a pleasure to meet you at last, Hiccup. This egg... A... Changewing, you say it is? Well... Let me tell you about Amabella, first, because one story leads into the other. I set out to explore, maybe... Two years ago, now? I wanted to go farther than anyone I'd ever meet had gone," she began. "And when I reached a certain island, something - that would be Amabella - began following me, looking for food. She was very persistent, so I just kind of put up with it, and here we are," she added, a sparkle in her eye. She could practically feel the betrayed look in Amabella's eyes burning into her back, alongside an angry chirp. "Well, that was some time ago. So when I realized she wasn't going to leave, I gave her a name. Amabella. And we travelled, just the two of us... Until we came across an abandoned shipwreck on the shore of an island. I found the egg there, in the wreckage, and we stayed for a few days to see if anything would come back for it... But nothing ever did. I'd heard stories about dragon tamers, and I certainly didn't know what to do with the egg, so... I followed the stories until I found my way here." She left the last of her thoughts unsaid. Those being that she may as well stay a while now that she was here, not just for the sake of the egg - for this man seemed to know what he was doing, far more than she did - but to see what she could learn for herself and Amabella.
