Henretta had found herself having to climb through the front door since it appeared Hiccup's window was boarded up. Not too much of a disappointment, not like it would stop her from entering the home. Gummy was staying the nigg with Hookfang and though Henry loved nothing more than sleeping with both dragons and her favorite person, Gustav, she still liked to spend some nights with Hiccup on occasion. And it had been a while since they last did anything like this. Quietly she crept past Cloudjumper hanging in the hallway and into Hic's room, tripping and falling face first beside Toothless' bed of stone, though she appeared unhurt and quickly picked herself back up, happily letting the dragon's side, "Sorry bud, guess I can't stand on my own two feet, eh?"

### words for @tag "Hiccup" - "Toothless" A PERFECTLY CONSTRUCTED ALIBI Toothless was used to this by now, he was used to seeing his rider tossing and turning in his sleep, and used to hearing those small little alarmed sounds he made when he was clearly lost in whatever cruel dream his own mind liked to attack him with. He didn't know exactly what the young man dreamed about, but some nights, when the dreams got bad enough, he could feel that fear coming off of him in waves, he could feel the way his heart beat so fast and so hard that it seemed like it might just give out, and he tried to soothe him, but whatever was hurting him, it was something beyond the dragon's control, and he hated that there wasn't more that he could do for him.
Tonight wasn't as bad, though he was still aware of Hiccup's writhing and whimpering, whatever was going on didn't seem nearly as violent for the moment. The man was clearly having alarming dreams, but he wasn't sobbing, and he wasn't screaming, so Toothless imagined this was one of the better nights. He slept off and on, not nearly as exhausted as his rider seemed most nights, and when he was awake he watched him carefully...He could tell the dreams were getting worse.
His head shot up when he heard a thump beside his own bed, face twisting in a protective snarl for a moment before he realized who it was and his expression and body relaxed, he'd been doubly protective of his rider as of late, especially at night, where he was the most vulnerable. He didn't speak, but made a soft sound of greeting before turning his eyes back to Hiccup, then to her, a hope that maybe she could help where he wasn't able to.

Henry laughed and gave a playful growl at Toothless, knowing full and well he was just startled, petting his nose next as she looked over to Hiccup, her expression turning to worry. "Been having nightmares a lot if you're worried eh?" She said and grunted as she stood back up, and carefully sat herself on Hiccup's bed, stringing a hand through his silky brown locks, guesturing for Toothless to join, flopping over him gentle enough to not wake him up yet and nestled under the covers with him, hugging her arms around his torso, "Your lucky you're you Hic. Anyone else this would be the perfect pranking opportunity." She said softly and huffed under her breath, wriggling and hoping the movement would be enough to ease up into consciousness. "I'll get Toothless to lick you if you don't get up so help me."

### words for @tag "Hiccup" - "Toothless" A PERFECTLY CONSTRUCTED ALIBI Toothless gave a nod at her question, getting to his feet to come to her side, "yes. More and more frequently." And more violently, he nodded his head to the window that was boarded up, "that's why that's there, he's sleepwalking a lot." He huffed through his nose and glanced over the distressed viking writhing in his bed, "this is why he seems so tired all the time, because he's not sleeping." He made a worried sound at this, watching her sit before coming to join her, laying half on the bed with his back legs sprawled comfortably.
He didn't stir when she sat down, or when she laid beside him and spoke, he only whimpered a little more frantically as he twisted over to face her, mumbling something incoherent in his sleep as he reacted to the obvious presence of someone else there. His breathing became more huffed and panicked as he was moved around and shaken, and in the next moment his fist popped out and against her cheek as his eyes popped open and he startled awake.
It took him a few seconds to figure out where he was and what had just happened, but when he did his eyes widened with surprise, then shadowed with guilt, "Odin's ghost...I'm sorry!" He moved a gentle hand to her cheek, looking incredibly guilty, "I popped you good...Are you alright?" He finally registered the situation after a moment, looking between her and Toothless, "uh...What are you two doing in my bed...What time is it?" He looked towards the window, remembering that it was boarded up and grumbling, "uh...Sorry you...Like I didn't mean to hit you..." He looked to the side with a guilty expression.

The brunette pouted at Toothless, "You're such a good dragon or putting up and caring with him." She took notice of his writhing but didn't think to move back, about to speak before the man flinched and suddenly there was a fist in her cheek, boy for a scrawny noodle he could pack quite the punch. Hopefully she wouldn't be too bruised when Gustav saw her again. Letting out a pained sigh and a laugh she shook her head, waving her hand in a guesture that she didn't care, "No no I'm fine, it's okay. Kind of expected for someone thrashing around in their sleep like they're s fish being pulled out of water." She pulled away from his hand and rubbed her own cheek to ebb away the pain, smiling still.
"Moon isn't even in the middle of the sky yet so it's pretty late but not near morning yet. I haven't slept with you two in a while so I thought I'd drop in." She sat cross legged next to Hic, back against the wall as she faced him and Toothless, "I wouldn't have woken you up if you hadn't been throwing a fit in your sleep though, but from what I hear it's not just tonight you've been having night terrors, and not the cute small dragons either." ### words for @tag "Hiccup" - "Toothless" A PERFECTLY CONSTRUCTED ALIBI The dragon huffed through his nose, shaking his head at her words and laying his head down on the bed, "I don't 'put up' with Hiccup, I care for him the same way he cares for me, he soothes my sleep when I have nightmares too." He looked worried as his eyes fell, "I only wish I could do more to sooth his...But they come from a place that I can't seem to reach. I'm worried." He was going to say more, but Hiccup's words interrupted him, and he laid his head down against the bed instead, "it just keeps getting worse..." Hiccup's voice was low and soft as he hung his head, seemingly talking to no one in particular.
He glanced over at her with a tired smile, nodding and leaning back against the headboard of his bed, "yeah, started to wonder if you'd gotten sick of it." He smirked to the side at her, "but I also figured you were busy cuddling up on Gustav, eh?" He chuckled and looked down, "he thinks the world of you." Toothless came up closer, more on the bed as he curled up close to Hiccup's side, rumbling out a worried sound, "y-yeah...It's been a few months...They just get worse...Tonight wasn't so bad...Sometimes I wake up screaming." He pulled his leg to his chest, using his other hand to run it over the stump of the missing one, sighing, "I feel like I'm falling apart...Slowly but surely..." He shook his head, "sorry..." He glanced to the side with a tired smile, running a hand over Toothless' head when he scooted closer.

"You're going through a lot, like always... I don't think I could make it in your place, you're strong for doing what you do." She said and hugged him, her good cheek pressed against his arm as she looked up at him, slowly slipping the goggles onto her forehead, "Nightmares are out of my league. I wish I could help you more... but I know I can sit here and be a good friend, eh?" She smiled and glance to Toothless, "Maybe not sleeping alone will help?" Came her unsure suggestion. It seemed a bit out there, shre sleepmhelped increase a trust and bond with dragons or certain people, but would it keep the nightmares out of a very stressed man's brain?
She undid the ties in her hair and slipped the goggles off her face completely, gently wrapping them around her wrist as not to loose them in her sleep. "Maybe even check in with a healer and see if there's some sort of herb if you haven't checked already." WORDS ● TAGGED ● NOTES

### words for @tag "Hiccup" - "Toothless" A PERFECTLY CONSTRUCTED ALIBI Hiccup gave a soft laugh and looked down, shaking his head a little, "I have to persevere...Because everyone needs me to." He let out a heavy sigh, feeling aged beyond his years as he settled down more against his bed, closing his eyes a moment, "I don't have the option to just...Lay down and give up...I have to fight, even if it kills me." He turned a tired smile to her, letting out a half chuckle and rubbing his hand over his eyes, "maybe, having someone here at least makes waking up from them less awful..." He laughed softly at that, still running his hand idly over Toothless's head, the black dragon had settled into a more comfortable doze, rumbling softly in response to the gentle petting.
He looked curious when she let her hair down and pulled off her goggled, giving a soft chuckle and shaking his head, "there's a lot I ought to consult with the healers about these days, beyond just nightmares..." He cleared his throat, then looked to the side, eyeing her sidelong, "so...I was always curious but never asked...what's the story behind the goggles?" He laughed softly, "now seems as good a time as any for a story, and I'm sure there's one there." He settled a bit closer, shifting as Toothless came to lay behind them, giving the pair the crook of his body to lay in, curling his tail over them and resting his head over Hiccup's shoulder, giving the man an affectionate nuzzle which earned a soft smile as he turned to kiss the dragon's cheek, both turning to Henry curiously.

Henry yawned and ran a hand through her wavy hair before raising her brow at his question, giving it some thought. "I suppose..." She laid back against Toothless happily, tracing her fingers over the glass of her goggles before her dual colored eyes met Hiccup's gaze. "I guess everyone can use a bedtime story before sleeping." She shifted with a small laugh, "Alright... geez thinking back on all of this makes me feel so old." She collected the tangled thoughts, pulling them from the back of her mind slowly. "Well my tribe lived on the sea, we were travelers, back when Berk still didn't like dragons yet, and I was four at the time. I think... yeah, almost five. I wasn't that social so I liked animals more than people, I always played with the cats, and would fish by the docks myself to feed them, that sort of thing. I met Gummy pretty soon, walking around all the time by yourself you tend to wander and adventure, and he was just a hatchling in his cave so we hit it off the bat when we both realised we weren't going to kill one another. Then his parents came home and they liked me too." She sighed longingly, remembering those easy days when it was just her and her dragon family.
"When I turned five my mom spent the day with me and let me pick out something from trader Johan's ship, or I think that was his name... he comes here every so often, but probably doesn't remember me." She shrugged off that thought, "I loved my mother, she looked a lot like me and acted like me too, so I wanted something to make us more alike. There were two pairs of these." She tapped the glass, "So she had one and I had one." She laid her head back against Toothless, lolling her head to face Hiccup still, "... I think that was the night they were supposed to leave." She slowly sat back upright, brows furrowing as the blurred image of her mothers face came into her mind... her leaving... the dragon's offering to fly her out to the ships on the horizon but she still refused.
"I... I left them but it's funny... I... I don't think they ever came back for me." WORDS ● TAGGED ● NOTES

### words for @tag "Hiccup" - "Toothless" A PERFECTLY CONSTRUCTED ALIBI Hiccup shifted so he could look at her more, it was a strange feeling, like being a child getting told a story, it wasn't entirely inaccurate, but it was still a strange...Kind of nice feeling. He'd gotten bits and pieces of Henry's past before, but never a full story, or as full as she was able to give, he knew well how time could muddle and blur memories. But he'd never heard her speak of her mother, or her family in general, and he gave her a gently warm smile as he listened to her talk, having another voice was soothing, and the story, at least in this moment, was fairly light hearted and sweet, he hadn't realized just how long she'd been with Gummy.
"your mom must be an amazing person if she's anything like you." He chuckled softly as he said this, musing more to himself than anything, but he didn't interrupt again as he turned to listen to the rest of her story, his face falling a little, "so they mean a lot then, huh?" He looked curious, tilting his head, "have you ever thought of going to look for them? Bet they'd be thrilled to see you." He shrugged a little, considering her words, "I'm sure they have their reasons for not coming back, it sounds like they loved you to death, so...I mean there's gotta be good reasons, right?" He didn't entirely like the implications that that brought up in his own mind, but decidedly avoided sharing them with Henry.
There was a thought tugging at the back of his mind, and it drew up a question as he looked over her face, "you lived in the forest for a while, then?" He pursed his lips thoughtfully, "I feel like I have a memory in the back of my mind of a girl throwing rocks at me from the treehouse...I have a lot of those...Just vague memories of a girl in the forest..." He looked like he was struggling with grasping at something, face a little screwed in concentration.

Henretta still looked vastly confused, startled by the realization that not only had she left her family, but they had never turned back to find her. She turned her gaze on Hiccup, "Look for them? They've got to be years and years worth of travel away from here, at who knows where." She shifted and leaned back against Toothless, again rubbing her thumb over the old glass of her goggles before wrapping them around her wrist again... The last link between her and her family. She was thankful for Hiccup's subject change, smirking micheviously, "A little over five years out there, yeah... Funny you remember that about me." A soft laugh left her, "Those were dragon scales though. Since back then I didn't realise you weren't a dragon slaying type." She teased, "So I raided your castle and claimed it as my own!"
She let out a soft content sigh, scoffing at the old memories. "Those were the days... Just Gummy and me in the forest. Fishing and hunting together with his parents... I miss it sometimes but I'm glad I get to be a part of Berk... human family or not." She stated firmly, smiling brightly again, "I don't regret leaving them. I love Gummy and Gustav and all of you too much to wish I had made a different choice." She hugged the Ebony dragon from where she was, nuzzling her cheek against his stomach, "And you'd miss my snuggles wouldn't you~?" WORDS ● TAGGED ● NOTES

### words for @tag "Hiccup" - "Toothless" A PERFECTLY CONSTRUCTED ALIBI He shrugged a little, "stranger things have happened, you never know..." He left that thought there though, not wanting to sour the calm between them with unnecessary words. His face lit up though when she spoke and he laughed, "thought they hurt worse than rocks..." He leaned back against Toothless and smirked at her, "fair enough, I think I recall you figuring it out though...We'd explore together'n stuff..." He let out a heavy sigh, it felt like decades ago, had it really only been a handful of years? He sighed, "I feel like I've aged by hundreds of years since then..." His face fell a little, "I'm not even 21 yet and I already feel like I'm ten times that..." He rubbed his hands over his face, letting out a heavy sigh before reaching to run his hands over the night fury's cheek.
"Yeah...Well...You're part of MY human family, Henry." He smiled sidelong at her, "I know I can't really take the place of your real ones...But y'know...Not a bad consolation prize right?" He gave her a crooked grin, Toothless shifted to curl his tail further around them both when Henry hugged him rumbling out an affirmation to her statement, Hiccup chuckled, "I'm not always the best friend, or the best leader, or the best...Well anything...But I'm glad to have you around, we all are."
