Dragon | Arena |
The Dragon Arena is the battle place and training arena of the Berserkers. Dragons and humans alike come here to test their strength and hold daily battles. Dragon battles are normally held weekly with human battles held in different ways almost daily. It is a favorite past time of the Beserker culture, battle being ingrained into their society since their founding. Although it is in recovery from the reign of Oswald the Agreeable, the need for battle having rusted but slowly coming back to life under the new Chief. The fighting spirit of the Beserker tribe has slowly come back to life, the arena slowly becoming rehabilitated.
The arena is quite large, holding three different sections. The main section is the main arena, where the battles take place. A small platform can be risen out of the ground and is normally where the human battles take place, it sinks back into the ground to allow for the dragons to fight. The whole system uses a rather large pulley system that is within a separate room within the Arena walls. The entire arena is caged in with chains and has a small barrier to try and protect the crowds.
There are two training arenas that are connected with two hallways that are decorated with holding cages. The holding cages are to keep the dragons that are in training or that are about to go into the arena. The cages are not overly large, but big enough to hold a monstrous nightmare each. Each cage is equipped with a removable water and food bowl, this is due to having to change the feeding amount for each dragon due to their size. They are cleaned out when needed, and normally prisoners of war or beggars take the job. Despite the cruel look it has it actually helps keep beggars fed and off of the street as well as integrating prisoners into Beserker culture.
The two training arenas are separated due to their use. The one off to the left is used to train dragons to listen to their riders as well as training them for battle. The arena is equipped with shields, weapons of every kind, catapults, and even a few already trained dragons at times. The goal of this is to make sure Beserker dragons are trained for battle as well as training them for manual labor.
The training arena off to the right is used for Beserker villagers to train. Warriors train in the ways of battle and train themselves to fight against rouge dragons. It is here that they train in every way that is needed. Young Beserkers are trained how to hunt and the basics of fishing. The area serving almost as a school building as well as a training ground. Young Beserkers are trained on their history, the jobs of their people, the dragons they are expected to train and battle with, as well as the honor that war can bring. They can also watch their elders battle and train for the arena battles.
The types of battles that can be seen vary in both human and dragon battles.
The Human types of battle are:
Boxing: This is done for entertainment or to settle a dispute between two villagers. No weapons are allowed and no hitting below the belt. The aim is to simply incapacitate the other not to kill, although death may occur on the rare occasion.
Swords Only (Disarm, Maim, Death): This is separated between three different categories, each determining how the winner is crowned. Disarm is simply disarming your opponent, maiming is to incapacitate them, death is self explanatory but must be approved by the Chief. These battles are fought with only swords as your weapon, no fists or axes allowed.
Axes Only (Disarm, Maim, Death): These battles are also separated between three different categories, each determining how the winner is crowned. Disarm is simply disarming your opponent, maiming is to incapacitate them, death is self explanatory but must be approved by the Chief. These battles are fought with axes as your only weapon, no fists or swords allowed.
Free Weapon (Disarm, Maim, Death): Free weapon is your choice of weapon, both opponents can choose which ever weapon they want and can fight using any means necessary. This type of fighting is also separated between three different categories, each determining how the winner is crowned. Disarm is simply disarming your opponent, maiming is to incapacitate them, death is self explanatory but must be approved by the Chief.
The dragons that are put into battle are separated by category, class, species, and finally weight. This is to keep from having to fast of a win between dragons.
The Dragon types of battle are:
Dominance: No dragons are seriously harmed and are normally between their riders/trainers due to a dispute that they do not wish to settle using their fists.
Maim: Dragons that aim to harm each other until one is unable to continue, deaths may happen but that is normally not the cause for these battles. Theses battles are normally done for the sake of entertainment.
Death: This can be for a number of reasons, a dispute between riders/trainers, entertainment, or an overly violent dragon. The end result is always the same however, two dragons enter and only one leaves alive.
