Valka almost ducked when the arrow struck the boy's helmet, quickly helping him and dust the way he held it and handing him another bolt, "Keep your arms locked, okay?" She rested her hand son his shoulders and watched him again, not bothered by their absent dragons. Cloud puffed, snorting in the other's face and shaking his head as he was hit, batting his wings slightly at Fang and laughing, "Me? An oaf?" He attempted to pin the other down.

He looked surprised when she took his hand and pulled him aside for a moment, his expression softening as he sighed, "that means a lot, I mean...It's kind of nice to have someone treat me like more than just a pest..." He scoffed a little, rolling his eyes, "I mean ya' kind of get used to it but...Still bites." He looked interested when she talked about bows, laughing a little as he looked over the longbows on the rack, "I'll say! Those bows are my height!" He chuckled, taking the crossbow when she handed it to him.

It was small, but had a good weight to it, and felt good in his hands. He poked a tongue out as he took one of the bolts to load into it, pulling the string back with a little difficulty. He'd seen Hiccup use a crossbow before, which gave him a bit of an idea of how he should hold it, "okay...You got this..." He mumbled to himself as he took aim, firing off, the kickback enough to twitch his arm slightly up, which flung the arrow against the metal bar and back, clanging against Gustav's helmet.

"Whoo! That was really close, eh?!" He laughed it off, picking up the arrow to reload it and look over at her, "so, ma, what am I doing wrong? Would rather not chance my luck a second time!" He chuckled.

Fang looked impressed by the reflexes of the bigger dragon as he quickly overtook him, and when Cloud Jumper pounced at him, he allowed himself to be tackled to the ground, letting out a loud roar of glee as he wriggled, whapping the other dragon playfully on the head, "you're quick! Especially for a big oaf!" He said the tease with a cheeky sort of affection, flicking his tail over the older dragon's head.

He nodded when she came up behind him, mindful of how he held the crossbow this time as he took aim, keeping his eyes focused on the center of his target, "gotcha." He took a breath and released it before firing again, burying the projectile a little off to the side of the center of the target, grinning wide, "I actually don't suck at this!" He laughed, seeming genuinely surprised with the notion. It was easier this time to load the next bolt himself, he figured he'd get used to the resistance that pulling back the string gave eventually, but for now he could deal with it.

The next few shots that he fired off landed close to the outer ring in the center of the painted target, and he felt his heart thumping in his ears with excitement as he grinned at Valka, "I think I can work with this, feels really good!" He was eager to show Henry what he could do, when he actually developed some skills worth showing off, for now, this was his secret, it was eaiser to practice that way.

Fanghook warbled out a noise that was between amused and complaining when the large dragon pinned him and batted him with his wing, he wiggled under him, flinging his tail around and making loud chuffing sounds, "biggest oaf in Berk!" He squinted his eyes in a cheeky expression, lolling his tongue out mischievously, "heaviest too!"

Cloud turned them over to where his legs were tightly wound around the other dragon, and he was on his back with the other on his stomach before he batted the other away, taking off running with a laugh, "Let's see if you can keep up with this oaf then!" Valka ruffled the helmet atop his head so that it messed up his hair as well, "You're a quick learner. You'll be as skilled as the other riders in no time I'm sure. You can keep the bow and dagger, and I can show you how to make arrows, in case you run out." Her smile softened considerably, "I can stay and watch you practice a little longer today, but I have things to attend to so it won't be long. Tomorrow we can go more in depth with seeing your potential."
