And if it ever starts to feel sad little fang Remember that your gifts are your gain He'd been in a lot of bad situations before, but this was by far the worst. It has started with an off-handed but pointed comment from Spitelout, he was usually good at letting any of his comments roll off, especially with the advice he'd been given by Henry, but it was hard to let things roll off when the man insisted on bringing his mother into the conversation. The fact that she and Gustav's relationship was strained was no secret to anyone, most people had the decency not to bring it up any chance they got as a means to hurt him, but Spitelout had never been a decent person, and the comment had been enough to send Gustav flying off the island in a wounded rage despite his better judgement, despite his best efforts to not let the man stir his shit pot. And then the storm hit, or maybe it was more than a storm, because the wind that ripped them from the sky felt stronger than any storm he'd ever been in. He'd tried to fight against it, tried to fly over or under the squall to calmer skies, but there was no fighting nature's fury, and he'd blacked out shortly after Fanghook's tail made a solid connection with his head. He didn't recognize the island they woke up on, only that everything hurt and he had no idea where Fanghook was, though the blood and scales told him that his dragon was here somewhere. He was fairly sure his leg was broken, or sprained, whatever the case it hurt when he stook, and he found himself having to use a downed branch to limp deeper into the trees. The island wasn't very big, and it didn't take long for him to see the fallen trees where his dragon must have went down...It took even less time to find the injured Nightmare by a small pond. He remembered letting out a horrified sound when he saw the damage to the spines along the Nightmare's back, some gone, some badly broken, it was a large gap along the dragon's back. He'd swallowed a thick lump as he approached, setting a hand on the dragon's side before he'd been swiftly thrown by his powerful tail... That was nearly ten hours ago now, and it had been a horrifying game of cat and mouse from that point on. Fanghook, seemingly possessed by some demon from another plane, had gone after him, with fang and claw bared and fully ready to tear the small viking, his own rider, to shreds. He'd been fighting for his life since then, the island seeming much smaller when you were running from something that wanted to kill you, and he was exhausted, both he and his dragon showing obvious signs of the struggle, though with no sort of weapon aside from the branch he was clutching, it was clear Gustav was the loser of this fight. He'd been in a lot of bad situations before, he stumbled, legs to tired and too weak from the blood he'd already lost, which seemed to dot the island in alarming ways if one looked close enough. His eyes were wide when Fanghook loomed over him, making him feel exactly the same way a rabbit might feel after being toyed with by a fox, he felt tears bite at his eyes, before he turned his face away, ready to accept the inevitable.

Henretta had of course followed Gustav out to the island as she had before, during their previous improvised adventure To Frigate, though she lagged behind to see what young Gustav would do, or where he would go since the island with their tunnel was in a different direction. She stayed when the storm hit until Gummy refused to fly any farther towards the island in the distance, and unfortunately Henry was forced to go home, and didn't catch the insadent of Gustav and his dragon crashing as she headed back towards Berk. She hadn't ever seen this island before, but it wasn't all that far out so she didn't have much worry... until she asked Hiccup about the island. Beetles resided there that caused dragons to go rabid, and in fresh water. What if they had landed on that island?! That would explain why they weren't back yet...
Being informed of their weakness the woman grabbed two buckets of salt water, and sped off towards the island at top speed, not bothering to tell Hiccup why she was asking about the island or beetles. She didn't want to worry her chief with something she was sure she could handle on her own.
Circling the island land as she drew near, Henry kept her eyes pealed for any sign of the rider or dragon she had last seen a good while ago... had it been days? A day? Gods she was so bad with time. She was worried though, and then in shock when she saw just what she feared. Gummy was a step ahead of her, firing a warning blast at the nightmare before he dived, and Henry readied to dump the water on the dragon, both buckets dunking over the dragon's head, and the beatles visibly flew off the dragon and died on the ground, though Henry herself hit the ground, landing and rolling so that she didn't hurt herself, as if suddenly appearing in front of Gustav, rushing to his side.
"Oh gods!" She looked the boy over and, something like a protective instinct snapping in her she checked the boy's legs, her touch wasn't gentle like usual, she was checking for broken bones or sprains, or even bruised areas. Finding his right leg to be sprained near the ankle she bit her lip, waving her hand to motion for Gummy to land. The dragons needed to get off the island as soon as possible before either of them became infected again.
She gently set Gustav down, and rushed to Fanghook, looking him over with sad eyes. Could Hiccup fix... This? Gently as she could, she helped the nightmare onto Gummy and pointed towards Berk, and eagerly the nadder took off, not wanting to take any risks, just like his rider was for the moment. As soon as the dragon was air born, struggling to fly with the other dragon but seeming to manage, she knelt back beside Gustav.
"I'm so sorry... " She said softly and looked down at his leg, "It's not broken, but you will be laid up for a little while. We need to keep it compressed and elevated..." She stood up with Gustav in a bridal carry, "Shelter, splint, and then everything else." She said mostly to herself, walking carefully as so not disturb the boy's leg as she headed towards a small cave she had noticed while flying over the land.
"As soon as Hiccup told me about those damn beetles I was out here as soon as I could come. What the hell happened?!" WORDS ● TAGGED ● NOTES

And if it ever starts to feel sad little fang Remember that your gifts are your gain
Gustav damn near jumped out of his skin when the warning shot hit the ground between himself and the maddened Nightmare about to make a killing blow, and he dared to crack open an eye to see what, or who had made the shot. His tense body uncoiled when he spotted Gummy in the sky, with Henry on his back, feeling relief relax his sore limbs. He flinched when she spilled water of the dragon, his eyes widening at he noticed the weird beetles dropping off of him, but he couldn't bring himself to get any closer to his dragon, glued firmly to where he was by fear.
Fanghook shook his head firmly, as if shaking off a heavy sleep, a confused expression crossing his face as he swung his neck around to look over the damage to his back, then the damage to his rider, only needing a moment to put the situation together before he let out a frantic sound, taking a careful step towards Gustav, who only shrunk back more, eyes wide and staring, he hated himself for feeling this afraid of his own dragon, but the only thing flashing over and over through his head was the teeth and claws and the fear, he was glad that she seemed intent on getting him to safety first though, regardless of his fears, he was glad that Fanghook was being taken home.
He winced and made a pained noise when she felt over his ankle, hissing softly through his teeth, "s'fine...I'm fine..." He wasn't entirely sure how fine he was, but he wasn't dead which was a plus on the long list of things that had gone wrong thus far. He only flinched a little when he was picked up, clinging to her shirt a little, he was still shaken, still disoriented, but he was glad she was here. "B-beetles? Those things that fell off him?" He breathed out a soft hiss of pain, his leg hurt the worst, but it felt like everything was on fire from the injuries he'd been given, "we were caught in the storm...I've never flown in weather so bad before...It came out of nowhere..." He looked to the side, "I blacked out...I think I was hit by Fanghook's tail or...Something...But I woke up here..." His voice shook a little more as he spoke, "I-I found him and...He was hurt...I tried to see if he was okay...He went completely mad...He...I..." His voice faltered and he went quiet against her chest, looking terrified, "he was going to kill me, Henry...It was all I could do to run...to...To f-fight him off...I tried not to hurt him...I didn't want to hurt him...I'm sorry...I'm sorry..." He'd seen the way she torn into anyone who even looked at their dragon wrong, all he could think about in the moment was how much she would hate him for what had happened, and it killed him to know that he'd had to fight his best friend, he closed his eyes to fight the tears that wanted to come.

Henretta frowned, the goggles were foggy with the sun reflecting off them oddly, and her expression seemed blank as she continued he'd walking. She was silent for several moments, angry, not at Gustav, but at the thought that he thought she didn't like him, as she could tell he was thinking something along those lines from the look in his eyes, at the sight of him being hurt, at those damn evil beetles. What kind of bug from hel would do such a thing! She sighed sharply, "The beetles make dragons wild, yeah. I can't say I could have managed if it was Gummy like that... if I was fully at my best strength and didn't know what was happening I would have to break his legs..." She shuddered at the thought, looking down at Gustav, using a hand to lift the goggles on her forehead, eyes meeting Gustav's from much more close up than before. She didn't care if he noticed the dual colors of her eyes currently, "You look at me and understand this, he was about to kill you, but it wasn't his conscious actions, nor would have it been wrong for you to have protected yourself. I'm here for you now, okay?" She reached the cave and set him down so he could sit up against the wall if he wanted, and walked away to gather the items she needed, just sticks and stringy bark. She came back and made a tight splint for his leg, and pulled a large flat stone over that was in the small cave, gently placing his leg up on it.
"You need to keep this elevated, okay? I'm going to gather some food and water and sticks for a fire. I won't be out of earshot so whistle if you need me, okay?" She grabbed his hand and gave it an assuring squeeze, slowly taking off her goggles and setting them on his chest, "I'm trusting you with these okay?... we can talk more when I get back." She gave a half smile, winking before she stood.

[attr="class","typebox"] [attr="class","typelyrics"]Be calm. Be calm. I know you feel like you are breaking down. I know that it gets so hard sometimes, be calm. Take it from me, I've been there a thousand times. You hate your pulse because it thinks you're still alive. And everything's wrong. [attr="class","typetextbox"] [attr="class","typetext"] He couldn't ready anything from her expression, and somehow that scared him more than any kind of anger would have, and after a moment he broke her gaze to look to the side, fully expecting some kind of biting anger or accusing words to come tumbling out, he was used to that, to accusations and blame, he expected it these days, even if the logical part of his brain told him that there was no way she could fault him for what had happened, he was used to everything being his fault, he was used to hearing that. So when her words went completely against all of that, he turned to her with a genuinely surprised expression, like the concept of not being put to blame was totally new to him. His mouth worked fruitlessly for a moment, before he sighed, "I tried to just...I couldn't do it...I couldn't hurt him...Not badly...He's my best friend..." He was a bit taken back by her eyes when she stared at him so intently, returning the gaze half mystified, but he gave a serious nod to show he understood her words, "I've never even heard of...Any insect that can do that to a dragon...Gods how horrid..." He gave her a weak smile when she assured him that she was here, nodding and relaxing a little from her reassurances. He leaned back against the wall when he was set down, too beaten down and tired to do much else, watching her with curious eyes as she splinted and propped his leg up, giving a half chuckle, "you oughta teach me some of this sometime...I have no survival skills...Be nice to learn from a pro..." When she rested her goggled against his chest, he put a protective hand over them and nodded, giving her a sure smile, "I'll keep 'em safe for you, don't worry..." He waved a hand when she turned to wander off, keeping a careful hand on her goggles while he waited. Henretta sighed softly and quickly knelt back down, kissing Gustav's cheek before standing again and quickly leaving, in search of the items she needed. She went back and got the buckets among other things like food and water from a pond, returning a little under an hour later, her tan jacket tied around her waist and her white button up shirt had the sleeves rolled up. She put the bucket of blueberries down beside Gustav, pond water in the other bucket as she dropped the sticks and rocks that she was planning to make a fire with, "Its just cool now but the night here is going to be really cold... cold will be good for your leg though, so I'll try and see what I can do to cover you up beside that leg... as for the rest of those cuts and scratches." She pulled out a rag from her pocket with a mix of leaves in it, and dipped it in the water before mushing the leaves and roughly rubbing them into the cloth before dumping them into the water, and using the now green dyed cloth to wipe the boy's face, "This shouldn't sting over your cuts, but it'll help keep them clean and numb a little of your pain." She said softly, not bothering with grabbing her goggles for the moment.

[attr="class","typetextbox"] [attr="class","typetext"] He was quick to put a hand on his cheek where she'd kissed him, eyes wide and cheeks just a little bit colored from the gesture as he watched her walk away. He swallowed that emotional lump in his throat and relaxed against the wall of the cave, looking over the goggles curiously, with as much care as he could manage. He'd always kind of wanted to ask her about them, but it felt rude, or like maybe it was a subject he shouldn't touch...He was distracted from his thoughts when Henry returned, and he gave her a thankful smile, nodding along with her words to show he understood, "I'll be alright, I've probably spent the night outside in colder weather before on Berk...The fire should be enough." But then, he also had exactly zero survival skills under his belt, he realized with a chuckle. She was right, the goop itself didn't sting as much as having anything rubbed over an open wound usually did, but he gave her a tight smile and nodded, "thank you...I'm glad you showed up...I-I'm glad you cared enough to actually go looking..." He glanced to the side, and then cleared his throat, keen to change the subject, "so, Henry, we've got time to kill...Tell me about these." He indicated to her goggles, "they seem to mean the world to you, and I've been curious but...Well asking felt rude..." He glanced up at her with a curious expression. Henretta gently cleaned up his leg as well, careful to not hurt the boy any more than he already was. "Of course I care about you. You're funny and smart and ..." She thumped his forehead with a frown, and then put her hands on her hips, "If you get me talking like that then I'll never shut up! You're amazing, okay?" She smiled sweetly, though it again faded as he asked about the goggles. She took them from him with a soft sigh, running her finger over the glass. "It's a long story... but I think I can trust you to keep it secret. After all, you're going to have to spill your shit pot into mine afterwards okay?" She offered and shifted, sitting down beside him, back propped against the wall as she rested her head on top of Gustav's. She hadn't told anyone about her story before, no one knew. Not Hiccup, not Stoick, hel not even Gummy knew. "When I was five my home, a traveling tribe kind of deal, landed on Berk. I found my little Gummy, who was freshly hatched and I wanted to stay with him... so when it was time to leave I snuck away and stayed. These goggles are the last gift my mother gave to me, she made them herself. All of the family had a pair, protects your eyes and such. ... You know, now that I think about it..." She sat up, brows furrowed in thought, "I don't think they ever came back to look... never mind." She breathed out the last words, shaking her head as thoughts rolled in her head that she had to dispel quickly. "Your turn! Tell me what made you fly all the way out here." She smirked with a wink, green eye and blue eye beaming, "Or will I have to kiss it out of you?"

Take it from me, I've been there a thousand times. You hate your pulse because it thinks you're still alive. And everything's wrong. [attr="class","typetextbox"] [attr="class","typetext"] Gustav laughed when she thumped his head, squinting an eye and sticking his tongue out, "at least someone thinks so." He gave her a serious nod when she spoke again, taking her hand and giving it a reassuring squeeze, "I wont tell anyone, and...I'll tell you a secret too." He confirmed, feeling warm when she sat down beside him and rested her head against his, laughing softly for a moment before he slipped off the helmet, just because he couldn't imagine it made for a very good pillow. When she started to speak, he turned his full attention to her, taking in every detail of her story, and her face as she told it while she spoke. His face warmed a little when she talked about Gummy, and her family, the affection there was more than clear, there were some little pieces he'd heard, or at least, he'd heard by word of mouth that it was Stoick who gave her a place in the village, but that was all he'd known, he took her hand when he could see clearly that she faltered a bit, squeezing her hand, "it's okay, I'm glad you told me..." He gave her a bright smile, shifting just a little closer to his side, his face fell though when she urged him to talk, and he sighed. "Spitelout." He mumbled the name like a bad taste, "I know...I'm not supposed to let him stir my shit pot...But he said things about you...About..." He sighed, looking up at her, "I don't just think I'm back luck because I think I'm back luck...I am bad luck. I'm cursed. I always have been..." He looked down, part of the memory were fuzzy, but there were other bits that were crystal clear, "I don't think mom ever really wanted me...I think she really wanted a daughter...But dad was my best friend...So it didn't matter as much that she actively didn't seem to like me..." He looked down, "I was really little...B-but I remember most of what happened...I-I mean I don't remember how it happened...But I was right there, and dad he...Fell...Or something...I think I caused it..." He looked down, "mom says I caused it...He was...It went right through him...Mom told me it was my fault, because I was a bad seed, because of my bad luck..." He rubbed a hand over his eyes and looked over at her, "Spitelout just...I got so mad...We flew off..." He hung his shoulders, "Fanghook got hurt because of me...Because I'm nothing but bad luck, no matter what I try to do..." Henry listened intently, tensing slightly when he said that this man had spoken about her, but the last thing she would want to do would be to make this about her, so instead she listened thoroughly, eyes softening as she held Gustav's hand tightly . "... Your mother is a bitch. She doesn't know what she's missing out on. Your luck is more of a burden on you than it is anyone! How can she just..." Henry made an angry growling sigh and put her hands in front of her, making a strangling guesture. "How can people be so mean to you! You're so nice! Why the hel am I the only one who sees it?!" She turned to Gustav with both eyes blazing, brows furrowed as she thought about how he spoke of his father. "That... doesn't add up. Your luck is just little things happening here and there, no one was ever killed before. You were young, you're not remembering it right." She said stubbornly, crossing her arms over her chest and huffing, though with the wheels turning in her mind it didn't add up... had Gustav's luck killed anyone before she would have known it. "None of that is your fault. Bad luck doesn't cause storms or beetles to hurt you. Bad luck doesn't mean you're cursed. Bad luck means you're on a long ass streak of little bad things happening. Rocks blocking a cavern entrance and forcing us into an adventure? I guess you can call that bad luck if you look at it that way. Tripping over a basket of fish and ending up on your back like a turtle? That was funny, but bad luck for you. Everything else like... This! That's not bad luck, and you're not cursed! It's just shit happening to you, because shit happens to good people! And hey, the people who come out of what they've been through come out better than before. You'll get passed all of this... and no matter what the hel happens I'm sticking with you." She laid back against the wall again, catching her breath from her rant, speaking in a softer tone and holding the boy's hand again. "Spitelout can't even keep a family together, don't let shit he says bother you... or if it bothers you... just come to me, okay?" She slowly laid her head back onto his, thumb tracing his palm, "Let's make the most of this trip, huh? I can teach you to make a splint and catch fish with your bear hands?"WORDS ● TAGGED ● NOTES

Take it from me, I've been there a thousand times. You hate your pulse because it thinks you're still alive. And everything's wrong. [attr="class","typetextbox"] [attr="class","typetext"] He looked surprised when she flat out called his mother a bitch, almost having to swallow down the instinctive defense that he usually barked when someone said something, because she was right, he couldn't remember his mother ever actually being kind to him, he sighed and shrugged a little, "she has my baby sister now, Odin only knows who the father is...I've never met him...Doesn't matter...I don't matter to her." He gave her a half smile at her words, leaning in closer and chuckling, "well, mom always was good at spinning stories, and when you go around spreading that your child brings bad luck...People believe it." Gustav turned to her a bit when she spoke, tilting his head when she insisted he was remembering wrong, "a lot of the details are fuzzy, it's not impossible...That's the story I've always been told..." The thought made his head hurt, and made his stomach swirl with an uncertain sickness, had she lied? He sighed and shook his head, "no way to know for sure I guess...She'd never tell me..." She hardly spoke to him on a normal day, much less if he actually asked questions like that, and he was half afraid of the consequence for said action. He turned his attention to her when she went off properly, his eyes widening as she spoke, and her words hit him in a place he didn't even know existed, tears welling up in his eyes and rolling down his cheeks. There'd never really been a time that he could remember where someone had said these things with conviction, and offered even to stay with him when things were bad, and he couldn't help the cracking in his voice when he spoke, "w-well...Tripping over a basket of fish...I-I mean it...Wasn't really bad luck, right? Meeting you wasn't bad luck..." He swallowed a lump of emotions and chuckled, nodding at her offer, "I'd like that! I've never been much good at either, Hmm but then I tend to give water a wide berth...Still! I'd like to learn!" He gave her a brighter grin, his cheeks coloring before he moved to leave a kiss on her cheek, "th-thank you..." Henretta always hated seeing tears. It was a sign of progress of course, that something was getting better, or worse so that it could eventually get better, but crying also meant they were hurting, and that meant Gustav was hurting. She swallowed down more words about people, and instead allowed him to change the atmosphere. Though, when he went to kiss her cheek she had another plan in mind, turning her head in a quick reaction, cupping Gustav's cheeks with both hands quickly as she used his innocent guesture and turned it into what she wanted, kissing the boy deeply for a good moment before pulling away and standing up.
"We still have day light, how about a swim? There's a pond not too far of a walk away. I can carry you, and the water would be good for your leg?" She suggested as she grabbed a blueberry from one bucket and popped it in her mouth' acting as if she hadn't just kissed the boy like she had. WORDS ● TAGGED ● NOTES

Before she pulled away, he leaned into it, put a hand to her cheek to match, and closed his eyes, pulling back with at least a little less wide eyed shock this time. He smiled up at her, feeling a lot lighter than he had just moments before. "Y-yeah! Sure!" He grinned, still unable to help the blush that had crept over his face from the kiss, he took a moment to unceremoniously down a handful of blueberries himself, nodding when she offered to carry him, "you think? Well...Water sounds like it'll feel good...The crash landing got me all banged up..." He rolled his shoulder a little, "everythings all sore..." He chuckled and held a hand up, unsure of how she intended to carry him there.
