[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] Time passes and kills everything In it's path and then it buries us in history [attr="class","itokaytext"]It felt like a lightning strike of agony that had fizzled out into a thundercrack of emptiness, it didn't feel real, it still felt like some horrific nightmare that he would wake up from, gasping and crying the way he always did when these nightmares hit him. Except he'd woken up several times, and he was still here, he was still trapped in this hellish reality, still facing the empty place where Toothless had always slept, where he always expected to see him, and now he wasn't there, and he never would be there again.
No one knew, not yet, Hiccup hadn't had it in him to tell anyone what had happened, he hadn't spoken at all beyond stock phrases that any chief should know, but there was no Hiccup in his words, there was nothing left but a cold, deadpan expression and a voice that was stony and quiet. Hiccup had died with Toothless, and any fire that the man had had in him before was extinguished by the storm that now raged inside. He was sure that people noticed, noticed the way he'd changed and noticed the absence of his best friend, but if anyone asked, Hiccup refused to speak, if he heard them at all.
He hated the nights most of all, when all he could do was lie in his bed staring at that empty place, the reminder of the one that he felt, it was the only time he grieved, when he was alone, when he could cry and hate himself all he wanted, with no one to tell him that he shouldn't hate himself. What did they know anyway...Nothing...Because he hadn't told them. How could he face any of them and tell them that it was his fault Toothless was gone? Because he couldn't control his words, because he'd let them get the better of him, they hadn't even been words that he meant, just irrational thoughts that bubbled up and out through his voice.
He felt the dam break for the hundredth time through that week, and he let out a choked sob, sitting up with a long look at the place where Toothless slept before closing his eyes, not stopping the tears that ran heavy down his face.
He grabbed his blanket, and pillow, and the and the tail piece, dragging all three over to the smooth stone so he could crawl up on top of it, holding the prosthetic close as he pulled his blanket around him, it felt like the entire world was crumbling around him, and all he could to was brace himself against the brunt of the hurricane.

Both CloudJumper and Alivia peeked their heads into the human's room. CloudJumper knew Toothless almost as well as Hiccup did... he knew that his friend wasn't coming back, and he hadn't flown off and away either. Toothless couldn't fly by himself, and he loved Hiccup. Not too long ago he had been worried sick over the human and then he just disappears? The storm cutter knew for sure his friend must be dead... and to the dragon's and humans in the house, and in the town, if they all knew they would surely be doing the same.
Alivia stepped all the way into the room first, allow whine like warble leaving her maw to alert Hiccup she was there as she crept closer, in case he didn't want her around, and she laid behind Hiccup on the stone, her head slowly coming up to nuzzle Hiccup.
Cloudjumper followed in close pursuit, much too big to sit on the actual stone he laid beside it, facing Hiccup and resting his head on the stone like a pillow. Most nights he slept like a bat, upside down on the ceiling, but his friend was gone and Hiccup, a human he counted as family, was upset. The day was one of mourning. template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] Time passes and kills everything In it's path and then it buries us in history [attr="class","itokaytext"]He felt alarm rise when he heard the sound, heart lurching in his chest for half a second before he realized it wasn't the cry that his addled brain wanted to believe it was, he sat up a little when he saw the source, looking surprised to see the changewing he'd made friends with slipping into his room. Alivia. She'd made friends with Toothless fairly quick, did she know? Dragons tended to be more sensitive to these sorts of things, he didn't say a word as he laid back down, reaching a hand to run it over her golden scales when she leaned her head down to nuzzle him, his voice was a cracked croak when it finally came to him, "it's my fault. It's my fault..." He gripped the tail piece closer as he heard the other dragon come in, feeling the guilt gnaw away anew, Cloudjumper and Toothless had been close, and the fact that it might as well of been him that drew the blade that killed his dragon weighed heavily.
"He's not coming back...I'm so sorry...I'm so sorry..." He wasn't speaking to anyone in particular, half to the two dragons with him, half to Toothless, half to whatever god had decided to punish him, this was a mistake he couldn't fix, a wound he couldn't mend. And what would everyone else think when they found out he was gone, when they found out why he was gone. He couldn't fix this, there was no planning that could fix this, just a slow agony as he tried to learn to cope with the fact that once again, he'd caused a hurricane for those around him.

Alivia didn't speak human all that well, but CloudJumper understood it al,lost like a second language at this point... Why was Hiccup saying it was his fault? ... he knew what the smelly drink made humans do, and Hiccup had smelled heavily of it the morning he had returned. He wanted to know what happened, he knew Hiccup would never harm a dragon by his own hands... maybe he couldn't defend Toothless from whatever had happened because he wasn't in the right mind? He wished desperately he could ask. He'd forgive Hiccup, the poor human was torn up enough as it was. CloudJumper translated for Alivia, who nuzzled the human more. The golden changewing believed now that her friend Toothless was right, this human really was his brother. She never though a creature she could hardly understand could hold such a close bond with a dragon, how torn up Hiccup looked it was true that he cared. She snorted, smoke going into the boy's face as if to say she didn't believe he was to blame. Cloudjumper saw saw the red of the tail fin and lowered his head, pressing gently against the other boy's hand. "We know he isn't coming back." Cloudjumper said softly, though he knew Hiccup couldn't understand.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] Time passes and kills everything In it's path and then it buries us in history [attr="class","itokaytext"]He didn't try to stop the tears now as he curled tighter in on himself, he didn't care enough about how foolish he looked to stop the quiet, choked sobs that escaped him as he held the red tail fin tightly to his chest. Losing Stoick had hurt, losing his father had hit him hard, but this was a pain so intense and raw, he half wondered if dying wasn't the better alternative. He'd never been the type of person to give up before, to lay down and die, no matter how much the world threw at him, no matter how many times he'd come so close to death's gate, he'd persevered, bounced back, but he felt hopeless now, he felt like nothing could save him from this, and for the first time he felt like giving up.
"I should have said what I said...I shouldn't have driven him away...I didn't mean any of it..." His voice broke and his breath hitched as he let his face press into his pillow, gritting his teeth against the pain in his chest as he shook his head, "this is my fault. I did this. I k-killed my brother..." The words stuck in his throat as he spat them out, wishing more than anything that this was a problem he could fix.

Post by Finnian Smork on Aug 1, 2017 20:59:43 GMT
Finnian was excited to show Hiccup what he had taught the dragon he was given, as well as the other two secret dragons Henry had given him, but he was supposed to keep those secret from the chief. When asked why the woman said it was for the sake of Hiccup, which he couldn't argue with.
The boy wheeled up to Hiccup's door, something he was more than thankful he was able to accomplish, and pointed to the door since the step up limited him from knocking. Sharp shot his his tiny legs on the door three times before leaping back into Finnian's lap, happily crooning as the cherry blonde pet him in praise. The first time he tried that trick the little dragon thought it would be wise to use his head to knock, a habit quickly broken.
He he had spent a lot of his time teaching his three dragons tricks, though Sharpshot was the dragon who opened door or knocked, all his dragons had their uses, the triple strike, the newest dragon, reached things from shelves for him, and the speed stinger was quick to grab things from cabinets (or across town) or to warn him when his parents were on their way home.
"Hiccup!" Finnian called excitedly, the dragon climbing to the top of his head, making the boy giggle as he waited for the boy to answer the door.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] Time passes and kills everything In it's path and then it buries us in history [attr="class","itokaytext"]He'd eventually cried himself into a fitful sleep somewhere during the night, curled in the warmth of the two dragons that had come to comfort him, something he was deeply thankful for, but eventually the sun prickled into his eyes and he mumbled out a sound, trying to be quiet so he didn't wake Cloudjumper or Alivia, he didn't see the point in getting up today, or tomorrow, or three weeks from now, so he was half content to just lay in bed, content to let himself wither away like the worthless thing he was.
He huffed softly when he heard the knocking at his door, his expression reading cold annoyance at the thought of having to socialize with anyone, he'd been snapping at people more often, saying cruel things that he didn't mean, but when he heard Finnian's voice his heart wrenched, and he sighed and pushed himself up and out of bed. He looked rough and he knew it, though he'd never been entirely able to grow a beard, he was distinctly unshaven, and the dark circles under his eyes spoke volumes for the poor state of the young chief's being, but he had to try for Finnian. He owed it to him.
Before he pushed open the door, he tried to breath, tried to find a smile, even if it was only cosmetic, he owed it to Finnian to smile. When he pushed open the door, he waved with a half hearted chuckle, soft and lacking any life, "Hey Finnian, good morning." He came down the steps to stand in front of him, swallowing thickly, "How are you? D-did you uh...Need something?"

The small boy beamed when he saw the man's face, the dragon on his head blocking his view for a moment. When he grabbed Sharpshot off his head his smile faded and he tilted his head, quickly smiling again. "I didn't know you were sick! Some one should have told me, because this will make you feel a whole lot better!" He said excitedly and the dragon tilted his head, obviously aware something deeper was wrong... For instance, he didn't smell as much like Toothless as he always had. In fact, where was his dragon?
Finnian shifted in the wheelchair, "I mean if you're feeling okay enough to see, I've taught Sharpshot a whole lot of cool tricks!"

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] Time passes and kills everything In it's path and then it buries us in history [attr="class","itokaytext"]He couldn't help the tight smile when the boy spoke, the boundless enthusiasm was a stark contrast to how dead the chief's eyes had become, when the boy expressed concern that he was sick, he nodded and reached a hand to ruffle his hair, his voice a little rough as it came out, the product of constantly fighting the lump of emotion in his throat, "yeah I've...I've been a little under the weather, but I'm alright." No you aren't, he chastised himself for such a blatant lie, he was far from alright, he felt every bit like he was dying. He tried to push that away, tried to put on more enthusiasm for Finnian.
"Oh yeah?" He gave a tired smile and nodded, going to sit on the steps of his hut so he could watch, he hated how utterly drained and tired he felt, he was usually the man with the boundless energy, and right now it took every bit of effort he had in him to hold himself up and speak, "Show me! I'd love to see what you two have cooked up together." Even though it hurts, he thought, to see two so close knowing he might never feel that again, he shoved those thoughts away, focusing on the boy and the terrible terror.

The scrawny boy beamed even more at that, and assuming Toothless was too sick to come out and enjoy the fun he adjusted where he was, rolling back a few paces. "I've been working a lot with silent commands, a friend of mine, Henry, said it always comes in handy to be prepared! So I was thinking, what if I had to be sneaky?" He raised his hand and made a gesture, palm flat before he lowered it to the ground, and Sharpshot came to his side, body lowered to the ground in a defensive state. "He can't do much on his own, but he's a good example for the other two. I think he's teaching them what to do just like how I teach him!" Without realizing he had given away an implication that he had more dragons he raised his hand and turned his palm vertical, and the dragon jumped back on top of his head, suddenly jumping off and landing on Hiccup's torso, nibbling at the armor playfully.
"See! I taught him to attack!"

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] Time passes and kills everything In it's path and then it buries us in history [attr="class","itokaytext"]Hiccup shook his head with a soft sigh when Finnian mentioned Henry, not surprised in the least that this was her idea in some way, but he was glad that at least she'd been filling in to help the boy out while Hiccup was...Well Finnian would need someone like Henry to keep his spirits up where he couldn't, "Henry's good with silent commands I've noticed, you've got a good teacher." Another tired smile, when he gestured and the dragon quickly reacted, Hiccup couldn't help but clap a little bit, the closest to a real smile that he'd given since he'd gotten that parcel the morning prior.
His eyes lit up just a little in interest when Finnian let slip that there was a plural to his dragons, and he tilted his head a little, "dragons? More than one?" He shook his head, giving an exhausted chuckle, "how many other dragons are you training?" It was nice, to feel just a tiny bit of the weight lift from his chest, though the pain still settled like hot coals in his body, Finnian had given him a chance to talk about something, anything, no matter how tiring talking felt. When the Terrible Terror leapt on him, smiled and reached to rub over his head, feeling his eyes well up with tears that he quickly chased away, "Hey Sharp, been taking good care of Finny I see?"

Finnian beamed at how Hiccup's tired smile appeared. Maybe he really was helping him feel better! ... though he blushed in embarrassment that he had revealed his secret about multiplier dragons, of course Hiccup wasn't mad. Maybe Henry was wrong about what his reaction would be? "Two more. Henry brought them to me because she said you weren't being yourself, and she wanted to help them. One's really big!" He said and put his hands above his head, as if to show how big he thought the triple strike was, "And the other one is small, but he's a baby. He has a pointy thing on his tail. I haven't had them long. Maybe when you have a chance you can help me? Only when you're feeling better I mean." template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0
