| | The blue haired girl hesitantly stepped forward, off the tracks of the subway she had just departed. Her usual subway went the opposite way, and she took a deep, huffing breath, her wildly curly electric blue hair flattening in the pouring rain as she drew her short reddish brown coat further around her shivering body, disregarding the folded black umbrella that bumped lightly against her hips clad in tight, warm jeans as she paced along in her boots towards the tall cathedral that made the college stand out.
Eastern Nazarene College, the hyper-religious college that no one was religious at, ironically. "Church" consisted of the students and teachers gathering and fucking around for a while before the "sermon" consisting of an inspirational speech, happened, and then students were released for class. The only thing these little bouts caused was a minor annoyance for students who had afternoon classes by making the wake up early, and it was almost never religious.
The Criminology and Engineering Studies double major checked her schedule again, the crumpled inked paper clutched in her shaking tattooed hands as the ink bled slightly in the freezing, icy rain currently assaulting her back and shoulders. She was supposed to be headed to an engineering class today, Crimonology was on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and her apartment was nearly only about 10 minutes away, with an extra 5 to count the walk from the subway to campus. She wandered around anxiously lost in the pouring droplets, her brightly colored hair plastered to her cheeks and shoulders, and serving as a bright beacon in the dreary weather as she looked around.
The rain didn't bother the 19-year-old Sophomore, though. She was a Pluviophile, a person who adored it when it rains, and she was quite comfortable in the calming noise, though she could stand to lose the shivering and freezing cold.
She wandered past the large, nicely decorated church to the older school-like buildings, the rustic look and creeping vines below the canopy criss-crossing the walkways with ancient oaks was absolutely breathtaking, and she smiled adoringly, happy to have moved to the school from Boston University. Not paying attention, she bumped--hard--into someone else, knocking both back. She hissed slightly in pain, her sharpened, fang-like canines baring slightly as she rubbed her head where it had collided with the unknown man, and blinked her blue eyes at him slowly, the gold color around her slitted pupils seemingly bleeding further into the rich blue until they almost touched the faded navy coloring around the outer edges of her irises as the black of her pupils adjusted themselves to the new proximity of focus.
"Er, Hi. I'm sorry for bumping into you...?" She said hesitantly as she pressed her hair back, and focused on his moss colored eyes surrounded by a light mahogany head of hair.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] On the rooftop Where I spend my lonely nights As the sunlight fades the cold stands with the night [attr="class","itokaytext"]He never entirely knew where he was going, and he never exactly knew where he'd been, and he certainly never got in a hurry to get anywhere he needed to go, but he still managed to get there just before he would be considered late, whether that was good time management or luck had yet to be entirely decided, but whatever the case he would take either. He wasn't exactly the kind of person to jump right out in a crowd, for all effects and purposes Hiccup looked fairly unassuming, or so he thought, downright ordinary and average, although some of his friends like to tease that he defined the term 'nerd', and he didn't entirely have it in him to argue on that.
He didn't used to mind the rain as much, when he was younger and the cold and the wet didn't stiffen the place where his leg ended and the prosthetic began, making it sore and giving him an even more awkward limp than he usually had. He still couldn't bring himself to hate the rain though, even given the way it ached him these days, and the way it reminded him of things he would rather forget, cold slippery roads and oncoming semi-trucks, those thoughts tended to hit in waves when they did come, and tended to zone him out more so than he already tended to be thanks to the poor sleep schedule he kept, he was only even half awake at any given time, the irony of working at a coffee shop, but at least he had a fairly steady supply of espresso to keep him going, it was what he was sipping on from a thermos when he was suddenly slammed into by someone who was just as distracted as he was.
"No it's fine!" He managed when he righted himself, glad that for once he avoided toppling to the ground, that would have been unfortunate as utterly wet as it was literally everywhere, "I was just kind of zoning out in the middle of the walkway so like, my fault too!" He chuckled, adjusting the glasses that had been knocked askew in the collision before he finally got a good look at her, "I don't think I've seen you around...I'd of remembered...Maybe...What's your name?" He caught a look at the paper that was clutched in her hand, "where are you headed? Oh! I'm uh...Hiccup..." He always had a habit of half mumbling his name, which he didn't hate, but still fully realized it sounded a little silly when said out loud.

| | Kristen chuckled at the man, shaking her head slightly. She probably wouldn't have noticed him, unless she had done exactly what she just did--almost blow him over. She heard a slight creak, and let her eyes wander to his leg briefly, the unique coloring expanding and mixing weirdly as she thought, almost turning silver, before snapping back to "normal" as she lifted her gaze back to meet his.
"No, I just transferred to ENC, so I doubt you've seen me before. And You'd remember. Theres not mny like me. Kristen, by the way. Kristen Øystæ, at your service." She said, grinning and bowing slightly, before scrunching further into her jacket, her black jeans already soaked through from her time outside. Her crazy appearance consisting of black jeans and heeled black books with various buckles and her flowing normal shirt and jacket contrasted wildly with her sleeved arms, the ink peeking out of the cuffs of her jacket, and her frizzy, soaking electric blue hair. Coupling all that with her weird-ass eyes... It'd be hard to forget a face like hers.
She smiled, before shaking her head and uncrumpling her paper, smoothing some of the edges to show the slightly-smeared letters to him. "I have Advanced Computer Programming 2 right now, though I'm a tad lost, if you didn't notice." She chuckled nervously, before clearing her throat and realigning her spine to make it straight.
"Do you happen to know where the classroom for that is?" She asked hesitantly, blinking hopefully at him. He didn't seem in a hurry, or new here, so maybe he had the time to help her. Just then, she heard the church bells chime, signaling that everyone should be in their classes, and she sighed, running long, sickly-looking pale fingers through light blue hair and closing her eyes. She was late. She hated being late.
Hope surged through her, maybe this guy could help her? The campus wasn't large, but it sure was a maze. She kept silent after, wishing and hoping to whatever god existed that this man had some answers and help for her.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] On the rooftop Where I spend my lonely nights As the sunlight fades the cold stands with the night [attr="class","itokaytext"]She certainly was a presence, so he believed her when she said that he would have remembered her, or he hoped he would have, his memory wasn't always entirely reliable anymore, and sometimes he found himself forgetting things from a few minutes ago, much less weeks and months. He chuckled a little and gave a slight wave when she gave her name, "well, it's nice to meet you, Kristen, I can't entirely promise that I would remember..." He laughed and knocked his hand against his head, "this thing doesn't fire the way it used to." He realized that probably made him sound like an idiot, and was quick to add, "I-in the sense that my memory has gone to shit..." He trailed off when he realized he was rambling terribly, instead sipping at the thermos to stop himself from babbling more about things this girl definitely didn't care about.
When she showed him the schedule and told him where she needed to be, he nodded, "oh yeah I know where that is, need a guide?" He chuckled and waved a hand for her to follow, "I don't have anywhere to be right now, so we can walk together, yeah?" He scolded himself when he realized that this girl probably did not want to walk anywhere with him, he wouldn't have wanted to walk with himself if he looked as interesting as she looked. He cleared his throat a little, "I-I can just...Point the way out if you'd rather walk alone though!" He reached a hand to rub at the back of his head, "I wouldn't blame you, I ramble..." He glanced to the side at her with a curious smile, "so, Engineering? What all are you here for?" He thumbed a little anxiously at the hem of the heavy green sweater he was sporting as he limped along beside her, hoping he wasn't making too much of a fool of himself.

| | She gave him a deadpan look when he offered to just point the way. Her sense of direction--or rather, lack thereof--wouldn't allow just 'pointing' and hoping for her to make it successfully. She needed actual like, walking help, and she'd be damned if he got away.
"Um, I'd prefer a walking partner, actually. I don't mind rambling, it's charming, actually. Usually people are afraid of me because of my appearance." She chuckled and looped her arm through his with a lazy grin, her jacket pulling further up to uncover some more of her winding tattoos covering her arms. She tugged at it, willing it to grow a few inches and engulf her full arm and hand, but shrugged after a few unsuccessful tugs. This was college, her ink shouldn't really matter.
"Huh? Oh, yeah. I'm here for school, obviously." She said her tone semi-distracted as a lazy, teasing grin stretching across her face like the cheshire cat she liked to act as, revealing her sharpened teeth again, before she quickly tucked them back away, looking around the grounds that surrounded where they happened to be holding conversation.
"Well.... lead the way?"

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] On the rooftop Where I spend my lonely nights As the sunlight fades the cold stands with the night [attr="class","itokaytext"]He looked surprised when she hooked an arm with his, like, genuinely surprised, and chuckled a little as he started leading them in the right direction, "after the shit I've lived through...Nothing scares me anymore." He shrugged a little, noticing for a moment that she seemed to be trying to tug her sleeve down to hide whatever tattoos she had decorating her arms, he gave her a nudge and pulled the collar down on his sweater, grinning as he showed her the slightest bit of his own ink that ran down across his chest and over his back, "don't worry, no one will look at you funny."
He looked curious as he tried to get an idea of what it might be from what he could see along her arm, "show me later?" He blushed when he realized how that could have sounded, laughing abruptly and maybe a little to loud in his haste to correct himself, "Th-that sounded...I-I just mean like...I like seeing people's...You know? I'm not hitting on you I swear!" He mumbled something under his breath that sounded an awful lot like 'shut the fuck up Hiccup' before collecting himself enough to smirk at her statement.
"No shit, I thought you were here for the janitor job." He said that with a dry sort of sarcasm, but his expression read good humor in the words and he nudged her again, grinning at her, "specifics, girl! I was asking for specifics!" He tapped his chin with his free hand, "like...I'm here for a major in engineering, but I'm also after a fine arts minor, ideally I'd like to take every art class this campus offers at least once, maybe twice!" He eyed her now with a raised brow, "so what are you shooting for then? And if you just say 'an education' I'll leave your ass stranded in the rain." He gave her a playful smirk, clearly joking, but if she could tease so could he.

| | Kristen laughed, giving him a curious look before shrugging. She wouldn't pry, everyone had their closet.
"As long as you show me yours." She said teasingly, tracing the ink sprawling across what he revealed before flicking her gaze to the sidewalk ahead of them once he released his shirt and the fabric had settled back into place. She laughed louder at his hurried conformation, and shook her head. "I don't doubt it. You don't seem like the person to only help to get something." she said, sending another tease his way with a wink.
Her schooling pulled another breathless chuckle from her lips, and her eyes rolled in her head, viewing the sky for half a second before they were facing forwards again, and she decided to humor his little joke. "Ahh. Specifics specifics. I'm in for a Crimonology and Engineering Studies double with a minor in Psychology." She said, grinning cheekily at him and poking his arm. "But I like art too. Just have no time for those awesome classes like you do. You're lucky." She said, slightly in awe as they walked.
Using her other arm to stretch, her back popped comfortably, and she shrugged again, shooting him a playful glare. "Besides, I like the rain, so even if I hadn't given yo the information. I'd have wandered alone and you'd have felt guilty." She said with yet another grin. She was happy to have already made a friend, and she could tell he wasn't as... ordinary, ad he'd like everyone else to think. She'd get him to open up. She was fairly confident on that fact.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] On the rooftop Where I spend my lonely nights As the sunlight fades the cold stands with the night [attr="class","itokaytext"]He grinned and stuck his tongue out at her, clearly recovered from his absolute mortification from before, "I can manage that." He ran a hand through his soaked hair and shook his head, looking to the side, "been there, done that, it's a shitty feeling that I wouldn't do to anyone..." Of course, that hadn't been quite the same, but it had the same basic intent he supposed, at any rate he was certainly not the kind of shitty asshole to use someone like that, he smirked at her, "if I was I've no doubt you'd pick up on it and kick my ass." Or she certainly seemed like she could probably kick his ass, not that that was a feat, he wasn't especially adept at fighting in any sense of the word.
He looked interested when she went through what she was ins chool for, whistling a little and shaking his head, "no kidding! That sounds sick though, Criminology's gotta be real intense!" He laughed and shrugged a little, "I mean the trade off is I literally never sleep, but I get to do some pretty cool shit so it's worth the insomnia." He wiggled the thermos in his hand and grinned, "that's what espresso was invented for dontcha know." He said this, but still had to stifle a wide yawn as they made their way to the building, it wasn't terribly far, nothing was terribly far from anything else on the somewhat smaller campus.
He laughed at that statement and made a soft huffing noise, raising a brow, "damn you got it in one." He pulled a face, "we've only known each other for like five minutes and you're already reading me like a book...You a mindreader?" He grinned, and then pointed ahead, "that's the building you'll wanna look for from now on, can't miss it once you get the hang of where it's at." Of course, even if he knew where this particular building was, he wasn't always the authority on where things were, he still got lost himself sometimes, whether it was from wrong turns or sheer forgetfulness, he was at least glad he'd managed to do something useful for a change today.

| | A laugh burst from her lips. "Kick your ass? Nah fam, I'd be flattered maybe, yeah, but I wouldn't kick your ass." She laughed, shaking her head slightly. She listened to his sight fascination with her major and chuckled, nodding. "It's a lot of fun, though it can be quite stressful at times. I love it though. And I'm glad you found art, though coffee can't sustain a human. And I can't read minds, but I'll let you go one believing that. Oh! Here, Let me help you with that." She said, grinning.
Next thing either knew, she was swiping the warm drink and taking a swig, blinking and shaking her head before giggling and handing the cup back, detangling her arm from his and pecking his cheek in appreciation, a playful wink batted at him before she turned around, electric blue hair swinging behind her, the curls going wild and flinging water lightly around her form as she hurried into the building, pausing at the door and waving back at him, another smile finding her features as her jacket sleeve slipped down again, this time not making her freak and attempt to cover the steampunk-esqe tattoo sleeve covering the skin exposed. She then clutched her schedule in a hand and went off to find her classroom, biting her lip happily that she had made such a good friend so quickly.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] On the rooftop Where I spend my lonely nights As the sunlight fades the cold stands with the night [attr="class","itokaytext"] ---Later, After class--- From what he'd managed to pick up from her schedule given the smudged ink and the haste that he'd seen it, he was fairly positive that around now was when she would be out of class, he was glad at least that it had stopped raining so hard, only a light drizzle coming down now where it had been pouring before. Hiccup really wasn't sure if she'd think he was creepy for waiting for her outside of class, he'd really only wanted to talk with her more, it was nice to have a friend that wasn't involved in any of the drama that the rest of them seemed to be involved in, not that he had many friends to begin with, but they were usually evenly split on the situation with his ex and it was nice to get away from that atmosphere. He'd taken the initiative to bring two cups of coffee this time, grabbed from the closest coffee shop he could find on his way over here, he was loathe to admit that this was his sixth or seventh cup today, he could have laughed at her comment about coffee not sustaining a human. He yawned wide as he sat at one of the benches outside of the building, eyes flicking between the doors and his phone as he waited for her to get out, he had a fairly good handle on the schedules even for classes he didn't have, he knew passing period would be hitting soon, he could already see a few early leavers filing out, slipping his phone back into his satchel to watch for Kris now that more were coming out. | | The college sophomore knew, in her gut, that Hiccup wasn't the only one waiting for her. She knew he was also there... And she couldn't handle him right now, not again. She hurriedly shifted her hair in the mirror facing her to cover the angry scratch on the side of her neck, and left the restroom, glancing from side to side and rushing from the building. Rob stood a few feet away from her, making out with the nearest cheerleader he could get his paws on.
Kris bit her lip and popped her hood up over her hair, ducking her head and making a beeline to Hiccup, grabbing his arm and pulling him away, tears threatening to flood her face and soak through the drizzle that was already pelting her face with moisture.
She heaved a breath in and out after they stopped of the other side of the cathedral, and took one of the cups in his hands wordlessly, downing the scalding coffee in one go and shivering at the bitterness, before silently staring at her feet, bitterness on her face.
"...sorry for dragging you off like that." She said finally, struggling to keep her voice calm and even. When her boyfriend did that, she felt like she was drowning, and she wouldn't ever be able to gasp for air again. She hated the feeling, but she felt stuck with him, like she wasn't worth much more than the physical and psychological torture that her relationship awarded her. She even had someone else she liked, a guy named Andreas, but she wasn't even worth his glance, so she stuck with... basically the incarnation of Satan in her eyes.
She flicked her eyes up to her new friend, guild riddling her gaze. What if he hadn't been there for her, and had someone waiting for him? Careful not to let the angry red whelp that marked the side of her neck show, she raised her head a centimeter, to try and discover if he was mad. A ghost of an apologetic smile flashed across her features, and she sighed, completely defeated.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] On the rooftop Where I spend my lonely nights As the sunlight fades the cold stands with the night [attr="class","itokaytext"]He almost called out to her, but it didn't take a genius to realize that something wasn't quite right when he saw the look on her face, hood popped up, walking with distinct haste, and this was solidified when she grabbed him by the arm and practically dragged him away as quickly as she could, he did his best to keep up, trying not to stumble too much even if the pace was a bit quicker than he could manage were he not being dragged.
When they stopped, he studied her with a confused expression, looking from the way they came to her a few times, when she downed the coffee that was still fairly hot without a flinch he grimaced a little, looking concerned when she apologized and shook his head, "no it's...It's fine!" He offered a half smile, mossy eyes still painted with deep worry for his friend, "I was waiting for you anyway so..." He looked back in the direction they came again, brows knitted together in concern, "is everything okay? You seemed pretty adamant about getting the hell out of there..." He didn't want to prod further, so he left it at that for now, promising himself to ask about it later, when they were in a less open setting.
"So hey, this might be a little forward, but you wanna come lay low at my place?" He tilted his head to the side, giving her a more earnest smile to show that he really wasn't angry about being dragged away, he would figure out what happened eventually, for now he would get her away from whatever had her as distressed as she was and offer her a warm place to escape too.

| | She let out a weak chuckle, and nodded, lowering her head as they passed Rob again, and glancing at the black-haired junior whom she was supposedly 'dating'. She dropped her gaze quickly and hurried after Hiccup, however, and walked beside him to the subway stations.
"Just.. relationship issues." She squeaked out, nervously chuckling and subconsciously touching the red mark left by the pen she had been attacked with. She grinned at him and chuckled breathlessly, shrugging her shoulders slightly. "I won't be able to stay long. Tom needs help with Reaper soon....." she said uncertiantly, hesitance in her tone as she let her hood drop and her electric blue hair tumble down her back in the wavy curls it bounced naturally into. She sighed softly as they waited, practically feeling the questions he wanted to ask, but was polite enough to not. She would tell him at his apartment, she guessed, but not here, not where he could get to her. She needed some detox before she went home to him and faced the music, however unpleasant it is.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] On the rooftop Where I spend my lonely nights As the sunlight fades the cold stands with the night [attr="class","itokaytext"]He didn't miss the way she looked at the guy as they passed him, and it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that he was probably the reason for the deep distress she was in. He felt his anger bubble over as he turned his glance away, not wanting to meet this guy's eyes and potentially make things worse. He would figure out something to do about this eventually, already feeling his blood boil with a protective fury that he had to force down when she finally spoke, and he sighed and looked to the side, nodding a little in understanding.
"Yeah, I know how that feels." He looked over when he saw her brushing a hand over a spot on her neck, and his own lifted just a little before he forced himself not to push her hair away and look at it, he would get her to his apartment soon and then they could talk about this, where it was just them and maybe she would be a little more at ease, "it's alright, I wont keep you long." He tilted his head a little at the name, "Reaper? A pet I presume?" his smile brightened, "I've got a cat, his name is Toothless, and not for the reason you might think..." He waved a hand as he led her onto the subway, he figured maybe when it was just them he could give her someone to relate too, and maybe offer some sort of help, or advice, or something, he knew what it was like to feel helpless, the last thing he wanted was for her to feel that way.

| | She smiled and nodded, remembering the fluffy reddening-black cat that prowled her apartment. "Yeah, Reap is my baby. I've had her since freshman year. And.... Tom is my... er, Boyfriend I guess. Luckily the apartment we share is in my name only, because I might end up kicking him out... if he doesn't hurt me when I try." She sighed, shaking her head, before listening about her new friend's cat.
A smile crept across her features and she laughed, nodding again. "Maybe we can let them interact someday. Reaper's rough around the edges a bit, but she's a softy at heart." She laughed again and grinned, not really bothered about her situation as much now that they were talking about the cats in their lives. The subway pulled up, screeching to a halt at the platform where the two stood, and she looked at Hiccup, brows raised. "This the right one? For your house I mean. If it's not too much trouble for me to stick around a while." She smiled again, laughing slightly. "It'll give us a chance to show off our ink at least. You promised, remember?"
She clasped her hands in front of her, the bag on her shoulder shifting slightly with the movement as she waited for his response, a gentle smile stuck on her lips.
