Valka hissed and grabbed the boys shoulders, shaking him slightly as if it would help him gain some senses. "What about you getting drunk and falling out a window makes a strong chief? Having problems doesn't make you weak, not talking about them clouds your mind and leads you to jump out of windows!" She felt tears pricking her eyes again, "What if you had died from that jump? Toothless would be without a rider, Berk would be without a chief, and I'd have lost my son again." She let him go and wiped her eyes with one hand before pinching the bridge if her nose, trying to piece her words together.
"You have to be strong for your people, but that doesn't mean you have to keep everything to yourself and suffer for them. That's why you have me. You can talk to me, or your friends. If Astrid found out about this then what would she say?" template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] To love to kiss, to sweetly hold for the dancing and the dreaming [attr="class","itokaytext"]He found himself unable to meet his mother's eyes as she shook him, his face was shadowed by guilt and shame as he nodded, there was nothing to do but agree because he knew that she was right, his actions had been foolish, selfish, poorly thought out, most of the things he did tended to be that way, but this was spiraling out of control, "Mom..." He started, and then stopped, tears misting his eyes over as the words died in his throat, what could he even say? He'd let so many people down, he'd been nothing but foolhardy and stupid his while life, the amount of times it'd gotten people hurt, gotten the village destroyed, because he was foolish, "I just..." He couldn't seem to find the words he wanted to say, and eventually he just sighed, turning his eyes away so she couldn't see the tears bubbling up in them.
"D-dad never faltered, he never broke in front of anyone, people trusted him because he was always so...Solid..." His voice broke and his face twinged in pain, "I'm just tired..." He sat back down on his bed, shoulders and head hanging as he kept his eyes on the floor, "I'm tired of losing people, tired of watching everything around me...Turn to dust..." He sunk his head into his hands, letting out a long, heavy sigh, "but that's no excuse, I've always been better at dealing with this...I've always known what to do...But I don't this time." He didn't look up at her as he spoke, "I'm sorry, I let you down...I let everyone down like I always have."

The woman shook her head, "Stop trying to be your father, he was a good chief in his own way- but you are not him. No one expects you to be him. Just because you can't run Berk the way he did doesn't make you a bad leader." Valka hugged her son, her grip unrelenting as she pulled the young man that was still her baby, "You haven't let anyone down, things happen Hiccup. Bad things happen to good people because the evil of this world is lured to it." She pulled away just enough to cup his cheek, "There's a price to pay for going against evil, I can't say there's nothing to worry about, but out tribe is willing to follow your choices. Look at the happy people out there, look at the ones who have been affected by your good." She rested her forehead against Hiccup's, her eyes shut as she fought back more tears.
"I should have known you were feeling like this."

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] To love to kiss, to sweetly hold for the dancing and the dreaming [attr="class","itokaytext"]He'd done a pretty solid job of holding it all together until she pulled him close like that, when she had him in that tight, reassuring embrace, he broke, and he felt the tears roll down his cheeks as his pressed his face into her shoulder, "I just...Miss him..." His voice was wobbly and weak as he put the thoughts that had been weighing him down for months into words, "I can't seem to chase away the memory of..." He trailed off, and Toothless gave a soft rumble in response, knowing full well what his rider meant, "I can't sleep for the nightmares of that, of everything...So much has happened so fast and...And I don't know how to cope." He looked up at her finally when she put a hand to his cheek, leaning into it and letting out a soft sigh, "but for every good thing I've done, it feels followed by catastrophe...I guess I'm just waiting for the other boot to drop...For things to go wrong again..."
He put his hand to her cheek in turn when she pressed her forehead to his, shaking his head a little, "I've gotten good at hiding things over the years, I guess." He gave a tired smirk, "If you'd of known I would have been afraid I was getting rusty." He chuckled softly, and then sighed, "a chief's day is never done though, right? I have too much that needs to be done around the village..." He pulled a face when he could feel the ache in his body, "I sure feel like I jumped out of a window..."

"I know... I miss him too, and though how it happened was horrible you can't let that image play in your mind." She combed a hand gently through Hiccup's hair and rocking side to side gently, "I wish he were still here. You wouldn't be suffering so much, I can't imagine what you're going through... being thrown into this role and loosing the only parent you've ever known..." She held her son tighter, biting back more tears as she hit her head on Hiccup's shoulder, her grip loosening.
"That's enough crying. And this is enough pressure on your end." She kissed Hiccup's forehead gently, wiping her eyes with the back of her palm and standing, her dragon coming to her side quickly in worry. "Pack your things. We're taking a damn vacation." She pet CloudJumper's head, and the dragon gave a look to Toothless that could only be described as, "I hope you're ready for whatever crazy thing she has to offer."
"As for your pain I'll make some tea... Consider that your punishment for keeping secrets."

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] To love to kiss, to sweetly hold for the dancing and the dreaming [attr="class","itokaytext"]Being comforted like this was such a strange a foreign feeling, it never went this way with his father he realized, Stoick cared but he cared with firm words and stern speeches, he cared and comforted in the way he knew how. This was nice though, as much as he appreciated those tough love pep talks that his father had gotten so good at, this was nice, and he wrapped his arms around her in return after a moment, it was still a mystifying concept to have her here, something physical to hold on to instead of some wild dream, "I'm glad you're here though, I miss him but...I don't think I could do this without you here." He pulled away when she did, studying her face as she spoke.
He nodded and ran a hand over his own eyes now, swallowing down a lump of emotion. His expression turned surprised at her words and he looked a little uncertain, despite the fact that her words were less a suggestion and more a promise, "A vacation?" He looked back out through the window, conflicted in his eyes, "I...What about the village? I've already taken off and left them so many times..." He fidgeted a little, and then sighed, "I guess Gobber and Astrid can handle things...Getting away for a little while sounds kind of nice..." He turned to her and chuckled, "punishment, certainly feels like it..."
Toothless turned a look on Cloudjumper with what could only be described as an eager sound, it had been a long time since it had only been the four of them, and the prospect of having that again was much too exciting for him to be worried about any crazy that might come of this.
