[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] So I'm fanning the flames to climb so high 'cause there's no other way we can stay alive [attr="class","itokaytext"]He'd never built something quite like this before, and it was still a prototype at best, there would be no way to tell if it would work so that he could make improvements until he actually saw it in use, that tended to be the nature of these things, but at the very least it wouldn't be dangerous if it didn't work, he was thinking back to his flight suit on that one.
The boy's parents were probably some of the nicest people he could have met through the process, telling them about their son, about the things he dreamed of doing, it was more than clear through his conversations with them that they doted and cared for the boy endlessly. He'd never spoken to Finnian personally, mostly because duty kept him glued to everyone else, but he'd set aside time today to fix that, especially because he intended to take him to his hut and the joining workshop he'd built for this sort of project, both the boy's parents were busy, but he'd assured them that he would take care of their boy.
He'd procured most of the parts and pieces from Johann on his several visits since the idea first hit him, and he was prepared to make any design tweaks he needed should anything not work perfectly, but the idea was fairly simple in design anyway so he wasn't too worried about that. Finding the right kind of wheels had been the hardest part, the rest was fairly simple.
Toothless was behind him when he climbed the steps to the boy's family home, knocking on the door a few times before opening the door and peeping around, "Finnian?" He chuckled softly, "your mother and father gave me permission, if you want, to take you around the village with me." He held a hand up for Toothless to stay outside as he came to kneel beside the kid, "what do you say? You can ride on Toothless' back."

Finnian was sitting in a chair in the main room by the window like always when his parents weren't around, bored out of his mind with only the view from the window to entertain him. Of course he had graphte and paper in reach to draw with, but he had drawn enough the day before. He shifted in his chair excitedly, for his parents had told him the chief would be paying him a visit. Of course he didn't really know who that was besides the fact his name was "Hiccup," and he was apperantly the chief.
Hazel eyes met green as Finnian turned his head away from the window to spot the chief in his home. Or at least, he had been told it was the chief by his parents. Finny smiled at him and shifted to face Hiccup as the man spoke. His eyes widened and he broke into an excited smile at the mention of riding on "Toothless," no doubt that was the man's dragon, probably the same one he got to see through the window so much. "I'd love to!" He said happily. Used to his father being the one to pick him up, Finny held his arms above his head, expecting Hiccup to lift him.
"What's it like to fly?" The cherry blonde asked curiously, trying to not let too many questions slip from his mouth and into the open. He was a curious boy, but he'd hate to bombarded anyone with his thoughts, and would much rather figure things out on his own sometimes, regardless if he had working legs or not template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] So I'm fanning the flames to climb so high 'cause there's no other way we can stay alive [attr="class","itokaytext"]He couldn't help his face lighting up at the eager reply, easily lifting the boy when he held his hands out for it, which was a new feeling considering he couldn't pick up a lot of the other kids in the village even. When he had him held carefully enough that he knew he wouldn't drop him, he took him outside, making sure to close the door behind him before he threw Toothless a grin, "this is Finnian, he's gonna come hang out with us for a while, alright?" He chuckled as he took the boy from his hip, setting him on the dragon's back before climbing up behind him to make sure he didn't fall off, "flying is...It's hard to describe..." He moved his hands to the hold, putting his own over them, "but if you promise to hold on tight, I can show you?" He wasn't worried about the boy falling off, with him right here that wouldn't be an issue.
He looked down at Toothless over Finnian's shoulder, giving the dragon a cautioning smile, they wouldn't fly terribly high, just over the village for now. The dragon gave them a soft grumble as he carefully took off, doing his best to keep the take off smooth and easy for the sake of his smaller passenger.
"I can take you up anytime you want, you know, Toothless here is good at flying nice and smooth." He chuckled, pointing down to the docks, "bet you could probably see your dad down there if we took that route, but I'm taking you to my hut first, okay?"
It took less time flying than it did walking to make the distance to his hut, not that it took especially long either way, but this was much more fun he was sure than just walking the whole way. When they got to their destination, Toothless landed fairly easily, and he slid off the Night Fury's back, carefully taking Finnian off in turn, "I brought you here because I have something for you, Finny, been working on it for a few months!" He held him carefully as he brought him around to his workshop, which was outfitted with everything one might need for building, even a personal forge.
"The idea came when I was talking to your mother and father, they told me about you, and I couldn't stand the thought of anyone being trapped inside all the time." He chuckled softly, carrying the boy up the stairs and into the workshop, where he finally set him down in the chair he'd built, "but this should help, I tried to build it comfortably, these large wheels are meant to be pushed by you, so you can get yourself around without someone pushing or carrying you." He stepped back after a moment, giving the boy space to figure it out.

Finny pat the dragon's head when he was sat down, the feeling of sitting dragon back was odd, certainly not what he was used to, but is wasn't uncomfortable enough that it hurt. Having his question about flying made his eyes widen more than before. "I'll get to fly?" To someone who couldn't even walk the idea of such fast and free movement was more like a dream then reality, but sure enough here he was on the back of a dragon with his chief making the offer. He nodded quickly, stomach turning with butterflies from all the excitement.
"I promise!" Of course little Finny would hold tight, falling was already scary enough on it's own, falling off a dragon during flight would be ten times scarier and deadly, though that didn't make Finnian afraid in the slightest. He had seen how Hiccup and his dragon flew through his little window, he trusted them both as well as his own hands to keep him on the dragon.
Though the flight was fairly short, Finnian clung tight as he peeked below him, marveling at how the village looked from up, even if it was fairly low to the ground compared to where a dragon could go, Finny hardly got to see the village as it was, so the new view made him feel like a bird in some dream.
He held onto Hiccup as the man carried him inside, eyes looking around the new place curiously. The chair he was placed in was... odd to say the least. What was Hiccup even talking about? How could a chair help him move around, wheels or not people need feet to move. Right? With a look of thought, brows furrowed, Finny grabbed the wheels and pushed them forwards, the chair moving with ease. His jaw opened, questions in his head failing to tumble out as he backed up and moved in the other direction, looking up at Hiccup in shock. "... I can move it." He said in awe, bolting forwards and grabbing the wheels tight to stop before he hit a table, though he struggled to turn he managed. "I can move!" template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] So I'm fanning the flames to climb so high 'cause there's no other way we can stay alive [attr="class","itokaytext"]His own face lit up brightly when Finnian pushed himself forwards a little, feeling a swell of happiness in his chest at the sight. He hadn't entirely doubted that it would work, but he hadn't quite expected it to work this well, he anticipated some snags or stiffness in the wheels, but seeing how smoothly it rolled when the boy pushed forwards made him breath a soft sigh of relief, "If it needs any adjustments, I can fix it up, I can also get more fur to pad the seat if you need it!" He chuckled when he had to stop himself from bumping a table, moving close to pick up the chair so he could carry it down the short steps to the ground, "the wheels are pretty sturdy, so rolling it along the ground shouldn't be too rough a ride." He would have to figure out a way to absorb some of that bounce in the next swing he took at this.
He glanced over when Toothless came close to sniff at the chair, letting out an excited croon as he gave the boy sitting in it a slobbery lick over his face, Hiccup laughed and pushed at the dragon's head, "Toothless! Control the saliva! Guess he's excited too, I'm glad it works alright, it has handles on the back in case your arms get tired, someone can push you!" He took hold of the handles to show him, then let go and waved a hand for him to follow him, "lets take a walk, see how it works!" He wasn't entirely done with the kid yet, but he needed to get him down to the Academy before he could do anything else.
He glanced back at the boy with a friendly smile, "so, Finny, you and Toothless seem to get along, you like dragons?"

Finnian wiped the tears forming in his eyes quickly, feeling over the almost magical chair he had just been gifted with. He laughed as the dragon licked him, leaving his face slightly slobbery but he didn't mind. He was too happy to mind anything for the moment. He wiped his face free of dragon slobber and held onto the chair as he was brought downstairs. Hearing those words...
"lets take a walk," Something he never thought someone would say to him. Something he never thought he'd be able to do! He wheeled quickly after Hiccup, eyes darting around as he had... what felt like a whole new view on everything. He could go where he wanted all by himself, he could get out of bed in the morning and dress himself and get things for himself and ... It was overwhelming.
"Dragons? Of course I like them! Look at how cute they are!" He beamed and reached over, petting the top of Toothless' head, using one hand to continue moving the chair, eyes glancing to Hiccup, "I'd like to have a dragon, but no way would I be allowed to fly by myself. Having a dragon without a rider can't be fun for the poor guy either." template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] To love to kiss, to sweetly hold for the dancing and the dreaming [attr="class","itokaytext"]He kept his pace easy for the boy while he adjusted to the chair, Toothless settling into a matching pace on the opposite side of the boy, clearly taking a shine to him as he leaned his head in close to let him pet over his warm scales, "he likes you." He looked thoughtful as he turned his steps towards the academy, "I know your hut is built up on stairs like most others, I'll build a ramp so you can get in and out by yourself. Perhaps if the other villagers will help, I can get them in on it too." It would be a fairly large task, but if it made things easier for him, and probably others like him in the future, well that's what his job was, improving the quality of life of all of his villagers.
"Yeah? Well not all dragons need riders." He grinned down at him, "some are small enough that they can curl up right in bed with you!" Though, he wasn't sure if impossible was the right word to use when it came to the thought of Finnian riding a dragon, he made a mental note to start brainstorming on that point later, for now, he waved as he led him across the bridge to the Academy, "I have one more gift I'd like to give you, this one's special." He put his fingers in his mouth and whistled sharply, "he was already really smart, and had a handle on commands and hand signals..."
His call was answered by a scrappy little green Terrible Terror, landing square on his shoulder before crawling down his arm to get a better look at the boy, "but I taught him a few commands that'll come in handy for you!" He chuckled and let the little dragon crawl onto the back of the boy's chair, "his name is Sharpshot, he's been my friend as long as Toothless has...You think you could take care of him for me from now on?" He reached a hand to rub over the top of the Terror's head, "I'm counting on you to look out for Finnian too, okay Sharp? You take care of each other."

Finny already adored Toothless, the thought of having his own dragon seemed a dream like everything else that ha sharpened today. He was beginning to wonder if he was truly awake. He was half paying attention to Hiccup for a few moments, something about a ramp for his home and getting other people to help build it. He perked up when Hiccup stopped moving, paying attention then.
Finnian was sure his chief had given him enough, he didn't want to be so spoiled all at once, it would bring him to tears for sure- or worse case sensario he would wake up back in his chair by the window, unable to move again.
Hiccup's whistle drew him from those thoughts and he beamed at the little greeen dragon on Hiccup's shoulder, looking dumbfounded when Hiccup asked him to keep it. "You're really... you're really giving me a dragon?" He asked as he looked up at Sharpshot, reaching up and petting his head gently, wiping tears from his eyes with his other hand again, slowly looking up at Hiccup. "I don't know how to thank you."
