| | It was one thing to go off on who knows what kind of errand when everyone knew you were going, but when the Twins just up and vanished overnight...Well he hadn't worried at first, it wasn't like it was uncommon for them to do strange things, to turn up missing, only to reappear elsewhere without any logical reasoning. Except this time they hadn't turned back up, and with very little clues to their whereabouts other than the fact that they were nowhere to be found, it fell on him to make sure they were alright, it wasn't as if any of the others were exactly jumping at the chance to accompany him, so he delegated them to stay and hold the fort down on Berk while he led a solo search for the pair. The best that he could gather from the one villager who'd seen them leaving had sent him North, the only clue he had to go off of, and thus far they'd been flying straight for what felt like days, past the Isle of the Lost, which he avoided quite vehemently, and onward until he saw a familiar mass of land coming into view. Neither dragon or rider had landed since leaving Berk, more from the lack of a place to do so than any desire to fly until they dropped from exhaustion, but he was too worried to sleep anyway. When the white island became visible over the horizon, he let out a heavy sigh, "thought we'd seen the last of this place..." His neck itched as he considered their last visit to the island he'd dubbed Snjar Island, which he'd left with a broken leg, "at least the skies are clear this time around, right Bud?" The Night Fury gave a somewhat fatigued rumble in response, and his rider patted his head, "alright take us down, we've been flying for days, the last thing we need is to crash land again..." There was a concerned chuckle in his voice as he angled them down, squinting against the blinding white of the untouched snow as they touched down. He knew he wouldn't get far trying to walk through the deep snow, so he stayed on his dragon's back as he reached to rub behind his ears, "can you track them? The snow will make it difficult but...Well if anyone could you could, Toothless." The dragon grumbled in response before his attention became absorbed in sniffing the air, every sense stretched and concentrated as he tried to pick out whether the pair or their dragon was anywhere nearby. His pupils became slivers when the familiar scent washed over him, and Hiccup had to hang on as the Night Fury took off running like a bullet, sending snow cascading around them as he did. Hiccup had to close his eyes against the stinging wind, but eventually they rounded a corner, Toothless called out a greeting to the Zippleback when he spotted them. "Hiccup" - "Toothless" | |

Ruff and Tuff When something looks too perfect, it probably SUCKS. The Zippleback growled, not able to recognize Toothless at first, and their beat up body was covered in scratches, one of their wings covered in makeshift bandages. The necks of the zippleback were curled defensively around Ruff and Tuff, who were seemingly sleeping. Tuff stirred first, wobbling to his feet, and grinning at Hiccup.
"Hey Hiccup, you missed the party. Ruff over there and I went and stole Macey back from the hunters, since, ya know.. Nothing's bigger than Macey."
Ruff huffed from her position leaning on their dragon, her catty smile curled smugly on her face.
"This dimwit wouldn't sleep. He was curled up on the floor under his bed when I told him he'd have to wait for morning, so we figured, ya know, we'll go alone and fix it. Although I didn't really get that involved. I'm mainly here to watch his idiocy."
Her gruff voice was smug, though one could see the bruises riddled across her arms, much like her brother's. Though the two often played dumb, they were very aware of what they were doing. And both were worried for Barf and Belch, the dragon having gotten injured in Tuff's terrible judgement of attack times.
Ruff sighed, jerking her head back at a rock that was covered in snow and only a few meters away.
"We've already tried ramming our heads into that to make a cave, it's too hard. Didn't work."
Her gruff voice was disappointed, but a smirk still sat on her face. Then, promptly, Tuff hit her with Macey, cackling at her as her smug expression turned pissy, and she tackled him into the snow.
"HEY! I WAS ONLY TESTING MACEY TO SEE IF THE REPAIRS WORKED!"
He crowed out, snarking at her and laughing gruffly, shoving her off and tackling her back, hitting her again on her helmet, only adding to the blue riddling her skin.
Ruff hissed out, headbutting him again and throwing him off.
"WELL TEST IT ON HICCUP THEN! NOT ME, YOU IDIOT!"
They continued to scuffle, Barf and Belch calming down and watching their riders curiously, before sliding their eyes to Hiccup and Toothless, cooing out in slight pain and leaning back into the snow once more.

| | When he was sure that the dragon was, in fact, Barf and Belch, Hiccup slipped off Toothless' back and held his hands up, "it's alright, it's just us...You two look like you've been through hell..." He could see the bruises and bandaged places, where there had clearly been some sort of fight, he didn't notice the twins until he managed to get a bit closer, feeling a little lurch of fear until one of the two stirred, "you came all the way out here by yourselves for...Nevermind." He shook his head, wondering why he was even surprised anymore, "c'mon guys, you're smarter than that, you had me worried sick!" He couldn't help but relax when it was clear that they were no worse for wear, but it was clear the Zippleback hadn't fared quite as well. He approached the protective dragon carefully as he listened to Ruff's story, eyeing them, "you could have asked me to come along, you know I would have." Even if the reason felt a little bit silly for all the danger it put them in, if it was really that important...At least it would have been a fair fight, "they look like they're gonna need a few days to recover before they're ready to fly anywhere..." He was glad that their injuries didn't look too serious though, the wing looked to be the worst of it. He turned a look on them when Ruff explained their attempt to make a cave, raising a brow in that expression that only seemed to cross his face when he was dealing with them, "you can't...Nevermind." He cut himself off for the second time as he pinched the bridge of his nose. He knew the twins were smarter than they tended to let on, even if they thought he didn't know, and he could already tell that this was going to be one of those situations where he had to wrangle incredibly smart puppies into something sort of like behaving. He supposed he would rather be stuck with them than Snotlout... He was pulled from his thinking when they were suddenly rolling on the ground and shouting, lifting his hands, "lets maybe not test it on Hiccup?!" He gestured to Toothless, who shot a blast beside them, close enough to get their attention, "Thank you, Toothless." He took a breath, and then looked between them, "okay, now, one of you, please tell me what happened when you landed? Are the hunters still here?" He hoped not, as noisy as they were being, it wouldn't take much for them to be found with all the shouting they were doing, he needed to assess the situation before he figured out what to do. Ruff and Tuff When something looks too perfect, it probably SUCKS. The twins stopped their actions, cackling at the young chief. They looked at one another, a grin stretching across their faces, and Ruff leaned on Tuff, who leaned on Macey.
The night fury's shot hadn't done anything but make the twins focus on their chief and his dragon. They let their smug smile drop as he started to talk about how he would have helped them, and Tuff rolled his eyes.
"You know Hiccup, I've told you countless times. A man's dignity is his ability to do his own work, especially when it comes to one's mace."
He said, waving his free hand around, causing Ruff to have to dodge her brother's waving hand and, already expecting Hiccup to look at her for a translation, sighed and rolled her eyes.
"He means he couldn't let you help him because he felt like he needed to accomplish it himself. Otherwise Macey would be disappointed."
Her voice was catty and rough like usual, but the underlying tone of pain in her voice, in both of their voices, was very evident. Whatever fight they had gotten into had obviously taken a toll on all parties involved, even if the hunters that had also been involved were not present.
The twins listened to Hiccup ask if the hunters were still there, and Tuff looked at Ruff, both shrugging and laughing.
"Not sure, but if they were, I'm sure they'd have run away. We won the game anyway. Everyone knows I'm more irritating."
Ruffnut snorted, patting Barf and Belch gently.
"No, we don't think they're still here. Otherwise the loud screaming that this moron let out when he saw some chicken bones would have alerted them."
She shrugged, smiling lazily. <3 TAG: Hiccup NOTES: Ruff and Tuff WORDS: ###

| | As much as he hated to admit that he understood where Tuffnut was coming from, he actually did, and the exasperated sigh that he heaved in response was enough of an indicator of this, "okay, alright I get it." He gestured to their dragon with a less amused expression, "but if not for yourselves, then at least for Barf and Belch? Personal honor is one thing, but you put them in danger." He realized it really wasn't worth ragging on them, and it wasn't like he was trying to be a killjoy, but it was less a friend worrying about another friend nowadays, and more a chief being concerned for people who were his responsibility...He was realizing more and more how his father had to of felt most of the time. His expression softened though and he rose a brow in an amused smirk when both twins reassured him that they were most likely gone, "well that's one less thing we have to worry about, at least." Or he hoped it was, since neither gave a definitive no, "now we just have to focus on not freezing to death." His words were spoken with a dry sarcasm, he'd damn near spent the night here once before, "but...Lets maybe avoid loud screaming anyway..." He eyed them both with a warning glance, "hunters aside, we have no idea what else might be skulking around..." Or who else, the thought of other people worried him more than wild dragons. He looked between them with a concerned expression, he could hear the pained edge to both their voices, "are you two okay to do some traveling?" He looked over at Toothless, who came up beside him, "he can give you a lift if not, we'll have to find some sort of shelter, I've been stranded on this island before...Berk's a summer paradise compared to this ice block." He couldn't help the anxious edge to his own voice, between worry for his friends and their dragon, he was definitely more on edge than usual. "Hiccup" - "Toothless" | |

Ruff and Tuff When something looks too perfect, it probably SUCKS. Both crossed their arms, smug smirks sticking to their expressions.
"Uh, duh. If we couldn't travel, how would we make a cave with our heads, Hiccup? Think about it."
Tuff said this with a child-like, slow voice, like his chief couldn't understand the English words leaving his mouth, and his sister nodded eagerly, narrowly missing concealing the small giggle that slipped out of her mouth.
"Plus, I doub't we'd actually freeze to death. OOH! If we did, do you think Hiccup could lick us out of our Icy prison?"
Ruff rolled her eyes at his second statement, and idiotic question, sighing and slapping a palm to her forehead before replying.
"Uh, No. We'd still be frozen ourselves, idiot. You don't just magically form a block of ice when you freeze, you only do that if there's enough surface area of warmth and physical material to warrant the need to freeze in a block. Like, you'd need boundaries, and very severe temperatures in a controlled area. Not in the middle of an Isle."
Tuff stared at Ruff, and her eyes widened, and she coughed a little, letting an uncertain grin slip.
"I mean.... you'd need to have a human sized icecube maker."
She said, covering up her early statement and glancing sideways at Hiccup, hoping he hadn't heard her little bout. <3 TAG: Hiccup NOTES: Ruff Tuff WORDS: ###

| | He pinched the brim of his nose at Tuff's somewhat condescending tone, "right, because that was going to work in the first place. My mistake." He rose a brow at them, trying not to be terribly offended by Tuff's tone of voice, it wasn't like he expected any less from him, he was used to these games by now, and if it wasn't for the potentially dangerous situation they were in, he might be more willing to laugh it off, but this place made him anxious, more so when he had other people that he was directly responsible for. He was caught off guard by Ruffnut's sudden tangent, looking over at her with wide eyes as he nodded, "yeah...That's...Absolutely right?" He screwed his face up, a little confused when she suddenly seemed to go back on it, "regardless, I'm not licking anyone?" He shook his head, getting side tracked, "no one's freezing to death though! Not on my watch." He looked between them, it was clear that they didn't see why he was worried, and he figured it would do him no good trying to explain it, so instead he let out a long sigh, "there's bound to be a cave or...Some kind of shelter somewhere." He crossed the distance to Barf and Belch, putting a gentle hand against Barf's head, "don't worry, we'll take a good look at you when we're out of the cold, alright guys?" He'd brought some basic supplies with him, anticipating that any of the group could possibly be hurt, he would try and convince the twins to let him look them over too. "Toothless, you've got better eyes, we'll head for that rocky gorge we saw when we came in for a landing, there's bound to be a cave there, and even if there isn't it'll be shielded from the wind." He'd been worried by the clouds that had been rolling in, and he was sure it wouldn't go unnoticed by either of the twins, "c'mon." He didn't waste anymore time before he started plodding through the snow, which eventually came well above their ankles, he tried to ignore the way it made his prosthetic creak uncomfortably. Ruff and Tuff When something looks too perfect, it probably SUCKS. Tuff tossed his hand over his shoulder towards the retreating form of Hiccup, Smirking at Ruff.
"Should we follow him?"
Ruff rolled her eyes, shaking her head. Tuff always had dumb ideas to get them into some sort of trouble, and sometimes it just made her... tired.
She nodded finally, crossing her arms and rolling her eyes again as she patted their dragon again and followed after Hiccup, sneezing lightly and wiping her red nose with the back of her hand.
Tuff just shrugged and smirked again, following after them with a strut, dragging macey behind his figure. Their dragon huffed out a cloud of air, and followed the retreating twins, limping slightly and lowering their heads to scoop up their riders, effectively removing them from the snow with a conjoined purr and click.
Ruff chuckled and Tuff grinned, both slumping against their dragons' neck. Both twins shivered, shaking their heads and sighing, before falling lightly asleep from exhaustion while Barf and Belch followed silently after Toothless and Hiccup. <3 TAG: Hiccup NOTES: Ruff Tuff WORDS: ###
