we are the R E C K L E S S WE ARE THE WILD YOUTH The renovation of this place had taken the better part of the last five months to actually finish, but he had to admit they looked pretty good, the Hangars had always been a strikingly bright beacon against Berk's cliff side, built up from the tunnels left behind by the Screaming Death, reclaimed by the people who lived here, but they'd been more geared to shelter Berk's dragons, with little room to accommodate travelers and traders flying in. The changes had been needed as the island began to grow as a dragon way point, it had been built up and out, with landing ports and bridges gaping the new additions, Hiccup's ideas for this place had been brilliant, and it gleamed out now, visible from miles away as the first thing to let anyone coming know, they'd found the right place.
Riders tended to be more apt to letting their dragons stay here now, when they weren't glued together like ants in sap, that's what brought Gustav down here this evening, the sun was at that perfect place that made flying that much more fun, and he'd promised Fanghook that they'd go out.
He puffed as he carried a heavy bucket of fish down the steps, which was a lot harder than he'd expected it to be all things considered, "Faaang I brought dinner!" He called out to the dragon, who poked his head out of the stable with an excitedly loud scream. He laughed as he hauled the bucket over to the open stall, grabbing the Nightmare by his horns and shaking his head around playfully, "are you ready to fly?" The dragon gave a loud affirmation, but turned his attention to the bucket at Gustav's side, "dinner first, huh? Okay okay!" He chuckled as he grabbed the bucket and waved his hand, taking him out to what was one of numerous landing platforms, "ready, Fang?" The dragon gave a roar of confirmation before the boy tossed one of the fish out as far as he could, letting out an excited cheer as the Monstrous Nightmare dove to grab it out of the air. He liked feeding him this way, it seemed to keep his hunting senses sharp, and it served as a good warm up before they went flying for real.
When the bucket was emptied, he whistled for his dragon to come back, patting his nose when he landed beside him, "nice! No one's as quick as you, Fang!" He waved a hand as he took him back inside, getting his saddle ready to put on him. CHASING VISIONS OF OUR F U T U R E S ulla

I'M TIRED OF FIGHTING FOR ONCE I WANT TO BE FOUGHT FOR
TAG: Hiccup. WORDS: XXX. NOTES: "Speaking" 'Thoughts and actions' Kristen Øystæ was a new face on Berk, having just stepped from the ship her father condemned her to. Her face was stained with tears, but a tiny smile played on her face. She knew that Tohor, her deceased Nightmare, was in a better place, far from the suffering her father loved to torment dragons with.
She stepped from the docks, and onto solid ground, the sun shining faintly off of her ling, jagged scar that cut across her face. The girl shielded her eyes, her willowy figure shrinking slightly in the bright light that she had yet to become accustomed to. Her life in caves had turned her skin so pale it was nearly translucent, and the bare sunlight was almost too warm on the pale flesh that wasn't covered by her cloths from home. She let her bare toes dig into the pebbles and dirt below her feet, and sighed, smiling slightly.
She hated that she was made to leave before she stopped that useless torment on dragons, but most of her also couldn't bare to live there anymore, knowing what was done with those she failed to train. She once again brushed her fingertips across the scar stretching across her face, thanking that ash colored Nadder for opening her eyes to what was really happening to them, and she once again swore that she would stop it. And soon, no matter the costs to her.
She huffed another breath, looking around her. There wasn't anything to alert her to signs of life in the huts, it was the middle of the day, so she suspected that most were working. She heard the distant clanging of a hammer in what she suspected to be the village blacksmith, and started trudging there, laughing quietly at the abundance of docile dragons among the huts. The spikes of a Nadder made her jump back quickly and crouch, straightening when she realized the animal was only irritated at a sheep that bounced by, drawing the beast's attention away.
"Always so jumpy, Kris.."
Sounded her own voice, making her raise her eyebrows. It had been days since she used it, and she figured she should dust it off if she planned to communicate with anyone in the near future.
"So... Anyone around?"
She gave an experimental call, coughing a few times and looking up at the sky, hopeful for anyone. Suddenly, she remembered the dirty streaks on her face, and wiped them away quickly, determined to not show any weakness to strangers, especially after the treatment she had just gotten from her own family and village.

we are the R E C K L E S S WE ARE THE WILD YOUTH Berk got a lot of visitors by sky, but not nearly as many sought the place out by boat, so when he caught sight of the ship touching land on the shore rather than the docks, he was immediately curious. It looked like only a singular figure stepped off the vessel, which was odd, not that there weren't sailors who sailed alone...But ships usually fared better with a crew, not to mention the figure that disembarked looked a little worse for ware, at least from what he could see from his dragon's back. Either way, his curiosity was piqued, and it was his job after all to keep a watch on who was coming and going from the island, Berk had her enemies, and it was his team's job to make sure nothing bad happened.
He kept a distance as he shadowed her a little further into the village, he wasn't especially worried about this newcomer, she seemed to not mean any harm. When she called out, he patted his dragons head, between his horns, "alright down, Fang, lets go say hello!" The dragon gave an eager croon before angling down, landing a little ways away from what he could see now was a young woman, "you missed the docks by about a mile, y'know!" He gave a good natured chuckle as he approached, his dragon close behind him, "they're that way..." He gestured to the right direction, "coming in from the shore kind of makes you look suspicious...Not that we're suspicious!" He was quick to remedy the statement, gesturing to his dragon, "but we saw you and figured we should come and make sure you got a proper hello!" He grinned.
"so, what's your name? Where are you sailing in from?" He glanced back the way she'd come in, looking curious, "did you sail here alone?" He chuckled and gestured to himself, "I'm Gustav, this big idiot is Fanghook." The dragon protested, giving his rider a firm tap against his head with the bottom of his own, which got the boy laughing, "he's not as badly mannered as he looks." His expression became concerned after a moment, "you look like you could use a proper meal and something to drink...This is Berk, by the way." He grinned, "you picked a good place to touch down, that's for sure." When he realized he was probably being too chatty, he shuffled and cleared his throat, clamming up for the moment. I'M TIRED OF FIGHTING FOR ONCE I WANT TO BE FOUGHT FOR
TAG: Hiccup . WORDS: XXX. NOTES: "Speaking" 'Thoughts and actions' Kristen flinched when the pair appeared, and the sun was blocked out by the shorter male and his dragon companion. Her fingers itched to brush across the scales of the gorgeous Nightmare that had appeared in front of her. A smile played on her lips as the dragon affectionately tapped his friend, and she held one of her own arms, keeping her hand from straying away to scratch the dragon's chin.
She listened intently to his full spill, silently letting him talk himself out. She supposed this was the welcoming committee, and he was quite the talker. A chuckle escaped her lips, and she smiled again, shaking her head.
"Nice to meet you, Gustov, and you too, Fanghook. I'm Kristen, Kristen Øystæ. I'm sure you've not heard my name. I'm from a village that's far off these isles you call Berk, my village is underground. And I missed the port on purpose, I guess. I wasn't exactly sailing, more like drifting in the boat I'd been kicked off of my isle on."
Her voice was patient and gentle, however, she said the last part bitterly, her easy tone marred with bits of venom. She clenched her hand in a fist, a frown covering the smile she once held.
"I'm sorry for intruding on your isle, I.. My father killed my dragon and banished me from the village, so I'm kind of in a bind, considering I've never sailed, or seen the sun."
She admitted sheepishly, blushing furiously when her stomach chose that moment to growl at her, demanding food.
"And... I suppose a good meal and a drink wouldn't hurt."
She added softly, kicking a stray rock away and glancing back at Fanghook.

we are the R E C K L E S S WE ARE THE WILD YOUTH He hadn't quite expected her story to take such a hard turn south, but when it did and he heard that bitter tone edge her voice, his own expression softened, became much more serious as he rested a hand on her shoulder, having to glance up to look at her, "well hey, wherever you came from, whatever happened, Berk's a safe place." He pulled back and laughed, giving a casual shrug, "I mean disaster at every corner, but the people here, they look out for their own." He gestured to her, "and once you land here, you count into that too!" The Nightmare gave a friendly croon in greeting as he lowered his head and nudged it close to her, which made his rider smirk, "you big flirt! He's buttering you up, don't fall for it!" He squinted an eye at the dragon, "shameless!" His words earned a slap on the back of the head by a heavy tail, which sent him stumbling a bit.
When he'd recovered, he caught her words, which caused his expression to fall, and even a little anger edged in, "that's...Sick..." He shook his head, "I'm sorry Kristen." He put a pin in that topic, figuring it would be worth asking more about later, when she was perhaps more comfortable with her surroundings, and with him. For now, he offered a smile, "you're not intruding, that's what Berk is here for, for travelers to find safety in the storm." He shrugged a little, waving a hand, "our chief is off taking care of...Something..." He waved a hand as he started to walk in the direction of the village, catching her growling stomach, "but I'll show you around, get you acquainted with the village." He pointed up towards a large structure, just visible from where they were, "but first, we're gonna go to the dining hall, it wont be too packed, it's just a bit after dinner." He knew there'd be plenty left for them both to have a meal, and not as many there to prod and ask too many questions.
The dragon fell into step on her opposite side, walking close, his own inherent instincts told him that she'd come from a place of misfortune, and much like a cat comforting its owner, he was trying to comfort her, Gustav chuckled when he noticed this, "he's worried about you." He grinned, admiring his dragon more than ever in the moment for the act. CHASING VISIONS OF OUR F U T U R E S ulla

I'M TIRED OF FIGHTING FOR ONCE I WANT TO BE FOUGHT FOR
TAG: Hiccup . WORDS: XXX. NOTES: "Speaking" 'Thoughts and actions' She bit her lip, her hand trembling from the strain of not touching Fanghook. He was so alike her Tohor, it bothered her that she didn't have her friend by her side. Finally, when Fanghook moved by her side, she gave in, scratching his chin thoughtfully, and brushing his scales gently with her fingertips.
"I'm okay. Tohor was a Nightmare, like your Fanghook here. He was the first dragon out of dozens that I've trained, and one close to my heart."
She said gently, walking with him and crooning softly at Fanghook, relieved to be near another beautiful beast. After a bit more of her fawning over the dragon, she let go, following the younger man into the dining hall.
"I appreciate it. I'm sure your chief is quite busy, with such a lively bunch you seem to have here, if your words are correct."
She said with a chuckle, petting Fanghook again absentmindedly. She knew she could easily find another Nightmare that would take to her, but she feared she would never meet another dragon so willing to connect with her, as Tohor had.
"He seems to be a nice man, as well. Taking to dragons so kindly."
She murmured out afterwards, following Gustov through the rather large hall.
"And I'm grateful for your hospitality. I can't imagine having to take in every stranger that drifted in from the sea, must be quite troublesome."
She said with a chuckle, covering her mouth gently and pushing some of her ebony hair away from her face, the strands eventually annoying her enough to elicit her drawing them behind her head and snagging them with a spare piece of rope she had tied to her belt for this exact reason. Brushing her bangs behind her ear, and tightening the new ponytail, she let her eyes follow Gustov, and her curiosity ate at her enough for her to speak.
"So.. How long have you had Fanghook? He's quite the charmer, and he's very fond of you."
She said, patting the dragon's side again. She felt relieved to have the scales of a dragon beneath her fingers again, and figured that perhaps she would be able to convince the chief to let her help train dragons, eventually. This was all if she was even accepted by the other villagers, which, even though his words reassured her, her own experiences from her village didn't do much to calm her quaking internal mind.

we are the R E C K L E S S WE ARE THE WILD YOUTH When she finally reached to scratch at his chin, the dragon have a pleased grumble, leaning into her hand much like a cat would do as she did. Gustav chuckled and watched the two, "you have made a friend for life." He sounded amused, but his interest perked when she spoke of training dragons, "you train dragons? Hiccup is really going to want to meet you!" He grinned, "that's our chief's name, you can't miss him, he's always got that Night Fury trailing after him." He could already see where she would end up fitting in like she'd always meant to be here, there was no shortage of need for dragon trainers, with Hiccup unable to be here constantly, "Hiccup will be glad to have someone like you here, we're always short handed at the Academy!" He shrugged, turning a grin her way, "lively, wild, but probably the most welcoming sorts you'll ever meet."
He nodded his agreement to her words, looking thoughtful as he led her in through the large doors of the dining hall, "Hiccup? He's a good person, not really like anyone you've met...He's the reason Berk is what it is now." He only knew of what it was like before through stories, he certainly preferred this over the generations of slaughter and war that had marked the island before, this was a much nicer change.
Gustav turned a look at her as he led her to a place to sit down, glad that the hall was almost empty save for a few still milling around, he talked loud enough to hear as he put together a pair of plates for them, "Berk is a place for travelers and wayward folk, we've been building homes for just that reason." He came and sat across from her, sliding her plate to her with a drink as well, his dragon being tasked with carrying his rider's on his nose, "that's where we'll head after I show you the Academy." He winked, "if you're looking to train dragons, you definitely have to see that place!" The Academy had gotten an equally impressive amount of work put into it, large and open, with a caged dome roof that could be lowered if needed, "then I can help you find a hut to stay in, for as long as you'd like!" So many plans, but he wanted her to feel welcomed, after whatever hell she'd been through.
He perked up at the question and chuckled, "I'm 16 now...Lets see...Three years or so?" He chuckled and looked to the side, just in time to notice the dragon getting close to his plate, "Hey! You had dinner!" He pushed his head away playfully, getting another whack with his tail in return, "charming...More like a spoiled brat." He chuckled, patting the dragon's neck, "he was a wild dragon, if you can believe it...I was 13, I really, really wanted to be a dragon rider." He looked up at the Nightmare fondly, "they tried to tell me I had to send him back off into the wild, that I didn't know what I was doing." He shrugged, "but I've never been good at listening, so I trained him myself without anyone knowing."
His expression fell a little as he looked over at her, "why did your father do...That...? Why...Did he send you away?" His tone was careful, but genuinely concerned, he didn't want to overstep his boundaries, or offend her, but it was a question that was nagging at him. CHASING VISIONS OF OUR F U T U R E S ulla

I'M TIRED OF FIGHTING FOR ONCE I WANT TO BE FOUGHT FOR
TAG: Hiccup . WORDS: XXX. NOTES: "Speaking" 'Thoughts and actions' She watched the pair with an amused smile, chuckling at the affectionate banter. This Hiccup character seemed interesting, especially if Gustov thought he would allow her to continue her work training dragons. The notion made her perk up, and a smile stretched across her face quickly.
"That sounds like how Tohor and I bonded. He wandered into one o four caves, and I trained him against my father's wishes. That's how I was made to instruct and train dragons for my village, as head Dragon Trainer."
She said, looking off a bit as she remembered those days, a small smile playing on her face. When her past was mentioned, her smile turned sad, but didn't drop.
"My father kicked me out because I figured out they were killing the dragons I failed to control and train."
She said softly, sighing softly and patting Fanghook again.
"But... I'll never have to deal with them again, at least until I find myself another dragon, and can get some sort of revenge. Maybe take over my village and change their ways."
She mused softly, shrugging. Another smile played on her lips as she gently tapped the table, eating absentmindedly.
"You and He seem to be great friends. I admire your abilities to train alone when you were so young."
She said honestly, letting her smile widen for a second as she listened to his plans for the evening. She hadn't expected such a welcoming reception on the isle, but was glad to receive one.

we are the R E C K L E S S WE ARE THE WILD YOUTH He couldn't help but smile when she spoke, he could already tell that she and Hiccup were going to get along swimmingly, Astrid would be pleased, having someone who could carry some of the weight that Hiccup often insisted on shouldering alone. He chuckled, "well, Berk needs more people who know their stuff, we manage, but out chief is only one guy, and he's spread pretty thin as it is." He shrugged a little, "I do what I can but...Well none of us can really do what he does." He gestured to her, "so it'll do him good to have someone here who can."
His smile faltered a bit and he looked down, sighing through his nose, "makes me so angry, people who do these things, between trappers and hunters..." He looked over at her, a serious look on his face, "if you ever need help doing...I dunno...Anything...I'll help..." He chuckled and gave a confident grin, "I'm small but I'm no pushover." His dragon nudged his head under her arm a little, giving her an affirming nudge that said the same thing that his rider was saying, "you're among friends here, Kris, we've got your back." He offered a reassuring smile before he gave a sheepish chuckle at the compliment.
"Yeah? W-well...I've just never been content just letting people kick me down." He lowered his eyes a little and laughed, a bit less earnest, "Fang's probably the first real friend I've had, I mean I get it, I was a pest." His laugh was a bit less subdued this time, "a huge pest...But y'know...Sometimes you take what attention you can get..." He cleared his throat after a moment, brightening up and gesturing out the door, "Berk's crawling with dragons though, I'm sure you'll make a few friends! We'll get you flying in no time, alright?" He chuckled, holding out his plate for Fang to lick the scraps off, "in the meantime, we need to get you settled in a comfortable place to stay, and let you see where you'll be hanging out to help train dragons!" He gave her a gentler smile, "dragons here, we don't put them down if they can't be trained." He gestured out after setting the plate down, "Hiccup will usually relocate them somewhere safer if they prove to be too difficult to train, he makes sure they're safe." He figure it was something she ought to know, given the things she'd witnessed before. CHASING VISIONS OF OUR F U T U R E S ulla

I'M TIRED OF FIGHTING FOR ONCE I WANT TO BE FOUGHT FOR
TAG: Hiccup . WORDS: XXX. NOTES: "Speaking" 'Thoughts and actions' Kristen let out a breath of relief she didn't know she was holding when he started talking again, and told her she could help them. Immediately, a smile worked it's way onto her face again, and she nodded.
"Of course, I'll help in any way I can. Just tell me what I can do and I'll do it. It's the least I can do for those who've done so much for me already. And I look forward to meeting your chief who seems to share the same talent, especially if he's as nice as you've been, Gustov."
She said, a sweet tone washing over her voice as she spoke, her shoulders relaxing. She wasn't threatened by anything here, she had no reason to fight them, or them, her. It was amazing to be among friends again, knowing she didn't have to watch over her shoulder every second of the day. She gazed out of the window as she listened further to his tale, and frowned slightly.
"You've been nothing but a darling to me, Gustov, I can't imagine you being a pest. Pushing a few buttons? Of course, kids often do, but a pest? Doubtful. Especially if this Hiccup character is as nice as you make him out to be."
She offered the younger rider a gentle smile, shifting her eyes to him for a fraction of a second before gazing outside as he kept on, mentioning how she would bond with another dragon soon. At this, she sighed, shaking her head.
"I doubt I'll find any dragon that had what Tohor and I had, unfortunately. I don't know, maybe I'm being pessimistic, but I just miss him. Another saddle just... wouldn't be the same."
She said hesitantly, frowning. Maybe she'd make a friend out of a dragon, that would give her an occasional lift, but she doubted she'd be a rider again. Ever, really, unless a dragon just... stood out to her, called to her as Tohor had. She wished, with every fiber of her being, that she'd make the connection again but.. she just didn't see it. Hopefully, though, it would happen.
Kristen offered a weak smile and nodded, standing from the table.
"Well, lead on, guide."
She said, making her voice light again, and keeping her smile firmly in place as she waved at the entrance, eager to see the place she had washed up on, especially if it was as grand as Gustov had said.

we are the R E C K L E S S WE ARE THE WILD YOUTH He couldn't help the slightly bashful expression that passed over his features when she called him nice, chuckling softly and glancing down, "y-yeah? Well I mean...Stumbling off a boat in a strange land..." He shrugged a little leaning against the table with his elbow, "I'd hope that whoever met me halfway was hospitable..." He laughed and shook his head, "though the likelihood of that happening are slim, a lot of islands and villages out there are much less welcoming to strangers on their shores than Berk..." It had gotten them into trouble a few times, being welcoming to all, Berkians weren't stupid, but they were a trusting group, and even though that was one of his favorite qualities...It also led to danger more often than not.
He laughed a little at that, shaking his head, "you don't know the half of it, I was what you might call...Accident prone...Still kinda am..." He glanced over at the Monstrous Nightmare with a smirk, "like rider like dragon, we had a bad habit of starting fires...And then making those fires worse trying to make them better..." He laughed, a little shaky, "it isn't like I blamed people for wanting to throw me to the sharks...Hiccup's one of the few people who have ever believed in me..." It was a morose thought, but he supposed the chief understood because he'd been there before, passed over and underestimated by everyone.
He nodded as she spoke, looking down, "that's understandable, I always say to keep an open mind, things seem bleak and stormy..." He shrugged and got to his feet, "but that's usually when the sun comes out. And the sun always comes out. You're in the sun now, things will be okay." He waved a hand for her to follow as he pushed open the heavy doors to the dining hall with a soft huff, "the village is a little rough in places still, Berk's been rebuilding, renovating, improving." He chuckled, "there's a lot of growing up to do, and our chief is never short of ideas."
The walk from the Dining Hall to the Academy took ten minutes at most, and he gestured to the structure when they came to the bridge that connected the main village to it, "there it is! The Dragon Academy, probably the main feature of Berk, we train dragons and their riders here." He couldn't help a grin, "sometimes we bring in rowdy wild dragons that Hiccup thinks might be sick or hurt, help them and relocate them somewhere safe, the dome on the roof can be closed for that reason." He pointed to the pens along the walls, "that's what those are for now too, holding dragons who need help." He turned to her, looking curious, "so what do you make of it? Think you could see yourself working here?" CHASING VISIONS OF OUR F U T U R E S ulla

I'M TIRED OF FIGHTING FOR ONCE I WANT TO BE FOUGHT FOR
TAG: Hiccup . WORDS: XXX. NOTES: "Speaking" 'Thoughts and actions' Listening, she let her head bob thoughtfully.
"I don't think people see you as a pest. I myself tend to be accident-prone, and sarcastic, and I don't obey authority... I'm usually seen as a spoiled brat."
She said, smiling cheekily at the younger boy before continuing, her tone relaxed and reassuring.
"But I'm still here, and you're a marvelous host and greetings-person. Plus, you trained Fanghook here from being wild, and he's turned out to be a right fine dragon, if you value my words at all."
She said, another, more gentle smile creeping across her features. She enjoyed meeting people like Gustov, those who were humble enough to admit their mistakes, but not enough to let them consume them. She watched him wander off, through the doors, and followed, listening to what he had to say intently.
She nodded once he had finished another bout, a determined air swirling around her. Gustov was right, she had stepped into the sun from the stormy life she had been living the second she stepped onto the isle Berk called home.
The young adult followed him to the dragon arena, awe making her jaw drop slightly, and her eyes widen. Suddenly, her expression turned giddy, and she let out a small squeal.
"Imagine myself working here? I'd be honored to work here! This place is amazing! It has so much more than I'm used to, but that can't be a bad thing, ever! Oh my gosh, I'd be so floored to be able to work here!"
Her voice was child-like, much more like a little girl who had just gotten a new toy or some candy than like her usual calm, soothing tone. She loved it here, and was very, very thankful she hit Berk, and not one of those other isles she knew were out there.

we are the R E C K L E S S WE ARE THE WILD YOUTH He chuckled at her words, looking thoughtful as he walked alongside her, "yeah?" He cast her a grin, clearly a little bolstered by her words, "good to know I'm not the only human disaster." He gave her a half smile, then glanced down and shrugged a little as they walked, "I mean I kind of get it...I've still got my parents but..." He shrugged and gave a half laugh, "they couldn't care less. I could be gone for weeks and I don't think mom would notice."
He gestured with his hands, making an offended sort of face, "I mean...She traded me to Snotlout for Odin's sake! Which was cool back then but...Looking back now...I mean who does that?!" He ran a hand through his hair, "I don't really talk about it...But I figure you get it." He breathed and then shook the thoughts away, "but I don't care! I'm awesome! And I GOT awesome all by myself!" He grinned, "counts for something." He nudged her a little, "we'll stick together then, huh? just a couple'a walking disaster zones!"
His expression brightened considerably as her own demeanor became so please, nodding, "Hiccup's really built this place into something special! There's all sorts of mechanized moving parts, you're gonna have a blast training here!" He didn't even say it as a maybe, it was more of a guarantee, he could already tell that she and Hiccup would get along, "so, when Hiccup returns, he can give you a better tour of this place, for now...You must be exhausted!" He smiled, "we can go find you a place to stay..." He whistled for his dragon, "we can fly if you want? You can take the wheel so to speak?" He chuckled, "I'll point the way." Fang let out an eager croon at the idea, nudging Kristen eagerly when he did. CHASING VISIONS OF OUR F U T U R E S ulla

I'M TIRED OF FIGHTING FOR ONCE I WANT TO BE FOUGHT FOR
TAG: Hiccup . WORDS: XXX. NOTES: "Speaking" 'Thoughts and actions' She chuckled, punching his arm lightly as she laughed.
"I'd be honored to be your fellow human disaster zone, Gustov."
She said, wiping a fake tear away. She was intimately familiar with how horrible parents can be, so she nodded as he spoke.
"I understand. I wasn't traded to someone, but I was ignored for my younger brother. Mostly because my parents were disappointed the eldest child was a girl. Sometimes I feel like my dad was searching for a reason to kick me from the isle."
She shrugged carelessly, offering him a side smile.
"Doesn't matter though, Berk is way better. Now I just have to get used to all this sunlight."
She laughed uncertainly that time, rubbing her reddened shoulders and arms, and wincing at the burns she found there. She was prepared, though. She knew her sensitive skin wouldn't handle much sun, it was inevitable.
She was floored when he offered to let her ride Fanghook, let alone direct the beautiful beast. She opened and closed her mouth a few times, a bit lost on how to react. She hadn't ridden since Tohor was killed before she left her isle, and, while that was only a few days ago, she was still bound to be rusty. Plus, she had no idea of Fanghook's ways or habits... suddenly the prospect of retraining a mount hit her heavily, and she bowed her head for a moment, sighing heavily.
"I... think I'll let you 'take the wheel' this time Gustov. It's a bit... much to be leading a dragon's actions so soon."
She said weakly, giving sloppy finger guns and smiling hesitantly, before petting Fanghook's head and scratching his chin thoughtfully, smiling gently at him and cooing soft words to him like she was used to doing with the dragons back home.

we are the R E C K L E S S WE ARE THE WILD YOUTH He couldn't help but laugh at the light punch to his arm, returning it with a playful one-two to her's, "Berk better watch out! 'Cause we're comin' through!" This was nice, he mused, having someone to back and fourth with that could actually answer back, as much as he enjoyed talking to Fang, dragons couldn't reply in the same way that people could. She felt like a friend, even though she was older than he was, and a relative stranger, he found himself trusting her, and Fang seemed to as well.
He rolled his eyes at that, scoffing, "Well! That's his loss!" He grinned, giving her a playful nudge, "cause now we get you!" He'd noticed the redness along her shoulders and arms, cementing in her words about being unused to sunlight, "Gothi might have something to soothe those, she's our elder, knows her stuff!" He threw Fang a sideways glance, and the dragon stretched a wing to cover her, "but I wouldn't worry too much, Berk isn't usually this sunny, sun's usually hidden behind heavy dark clouds. You'll see a lot of snow here." He made a mental note to see about finding her something to wear that covered her better, at least until she became accustomed to the sun.
Gustav nodded and put a hand on her shoulder, "hey that's okay, Kris, just...Anytime you want to, I'm sure Fang would love to let you take him flying." The dragon gave a pleased series of growls, nosing into her pets and scratches as he lowered his head for his rider to hop on, Gustav grinned when he was situated and jerked his head, "c'mon, we'll give you the best view of the island!" He didn't ride with a passenger often, and he couldn't quite contain how eager he was to take his new friend for a dragon's eye view of their home. CHASING VISIONS OF OUR F U T U R E S ulla
