ISLE OF BERK Former Chief: Stoick the Vast Current Chief: Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III Berk is a small island characterized by miserable winters and barely tolerable summers. It snows more than the sun shines, but there is a small window in the middle of the year where the weather becomes almost pleasant. Much of the island has been overtaken by large, wild forests, but in recent years since the fall of the precious chief, the forests have slowly become more controlled and maintained, much of the space being integrated by racing courses and other locations meant for dragon centric sport. For many generations, the city of Berk has been known as nothing but a simple fishing village, though it is notorious for training vicious warriors, they've never been known to start wars, though they have fought and won their fair share. The most striking change to the village came in the last 5 years, where the vikings of Berk made peace with their long standing enemies, the dragons. Since then, Berk has only grown and matured, long thought to be somewhat behind some of her sister isles, Berkians have made leaps and bounds in becoming a dragon capital. Though not especially convenient for traders by sea, Berk has in recent years opened up what they call their Sky Port, welcoming in those who trade by air from the world and beyond. The village has retained much of their traditional values and practices, but it is clear that they are entering a minor era of industry as the island is built up and expanded to house the growing population of riders and their dragons. Berk's main pull still undoubtedly comes from fishing, but with the remodeling and focus on the dragon academy, many who seek the island out do so for the training offered there.
