A day had gone by since Adelaide had been separated from Seaspray, her tide glider companion, lost to a nasty storm that struck the area they were flying. The storm had seemed calm and would have held up, but with Seaspray becoming anxious and her sand wraith, Cherub, getting uneasy, she had decided to call off their patrol. Dragons becoming tense was something they learned to pay attention to; they had a greater sense of nature than a human, save for a few, but they had been out patrolling farther than expected. One of their worst mistakes in a long while.
Streaks of lightning had struck too close for comfort, at the beginning that is, followed by torrential rains and the wind picking up more than it had. They struggled to get through the storm and Adelaide or her dragons could barely see five feet ahead of them. Before she could make the motion for Seaspray to land anywhere a streak of lightning nearly struck the tide glider, flashing before her eyes and causing the tidal dragon to roar in shock and rear back, the suddenness sending Adelaide crashing into the rough waves below and Cherub diving in after her.
Unfortunately, the spooked tidal class had taken off without realizing fully what happened and was half way back to Berk before realizing what had happened. In a state of worry, Seaspray had flown the rest of the way in a panic, seeking out familiar faces for help to find her lost rider. Cherub meanwhile had managed to drag himself and his trainer to the nearest island, exhausted and passing out close to where Adelaide had been until they both finally jolted awake later in the afternoon the following day. A little recon around the island revealed just where they had ended up and Adelaide had made some efforts to swipe some items to make a temporary splint for her leg, which had a few hairline fractures and wrapping her mid-section where she felt a fractured rib or two.
Now, the two had settled on one of the highest mountain areas, but flat enough to make an SOS out of leaves, branches, and shrubs before lighting it right up as a sort of smoke signal. "I hope they get here soon." Adelaide sighed, sitting on a rocky rise as Cherub was curled up in her lap, still exhausted from the swim and traveling around the Northern Market Island. But a few hours had gone by that Cherub suddenly lifted his head, growling when he caught the sent of something. The red haired Viking tensed, not liking the sound of his growl but was too little too late to completely catch the cause, whipping around when she heard the voices of a handful of dragon hunters, realizing they must have followed the smoke signal they had lit up. "What have we got here? A little rider lost her way?" One of them sneered, their weapons ready, slowly advancing as Adelaide scrambled to get up, wincing from the movement and grabbing her spiked hammer and her shield.
"Well you know, this place just reeks of needing some pest control/" Adelaide said with a shrug, Cherub squared up and ready to fight. But neither was hardly in any fighting condition and Adelaide already had an idea her remark sparked irritation and rage in the hunters who took charge towards them, forcing Adelaide and Cherub to brace themselves, Adelaide swinging her hammer to slam the flat end against the helmet of one and scratching the face of another while Cherub manage to release a few blasts of fiery covered sand, causing the group to back off only slightly. "Where's back up when you need it?"
