Early morning air wa salways crisp and clean... or at least, Henretta was pretty sure it was early morning air she was feeling. The sun was far from being out, so maybe it was just really late at night? Who cared? She was enjoying all her free time with her dragon!
Every so often she would sneak out just to fly, most dragon owners who had the energy did as well. Though not many of them probably weren't as daring as Henretta.
Henretta threw her arms above her head and let out a loud howl, laughing maniacally as the navy blue nadder she was riding continued to fly upwards at a steep incline. Wings flapped furiously as Gummy, the mentioned nadder, fought the wind and gravity as he continued to hoist both him and his owner upwards, squaking as the woman on top of him howled again. It was like both Henry and this dragon were challenging anything to stop them from their climb up. Finally she gave out the command over the sound of wind and wings, a short and demanding, "Dive!" Gummy folded his wings back and tucked his legs in as he faced downward, Henretta continuing to laugh and call out like a dog as they sped through the clouds at top speed, and continued to accelerate. By this time Henry was holding tightly onto the handholds as she leaned forwards on her dragon, before she suddenly stood and jumped off him, going head first for the water. Gummy, already aware of the move she was trying to do, continued down, adjusting so that he started heading towards the ground below. The nadder did a quick yet large circle around and she landed on the dragon once more, huffing from the force and throwing her arms up as Gummy leveled out, flying much slower. "Awesome!" She gave the dragons head a pat and shifted, looking down at the pines only a few meters below. Gummy had caught her only mere moments before she would have hit one, though the bought didn't phase her. She loves living dangerously, and she put full trust in her beloved Gummy! "Let's do it again!"

| | "You ready? It's been a while."The words were followed by a smirk and a 'hope you're not too rusty' from the rider as he patted the ebony dragon between his ears, earning a complaintive rumble from the Night Fury as he jostled him with meaning. Hiccup laughed and patted the side of his neck before leaning forward, making himself more streamlined against the dragon's form to reduce any drag that his presence there might cause before he gave him a pat on the neck and held on tight to the grip on the saddle, "lets show 'em we still got it, Bud, alright?" The Night Fury needed no more prompting before he took a running start off the take-off point of the hangar and shot off like a bullet into the sky. It felt like it had been way too long since they'd been able to fly like this, the duties of a chief often kept him too busy, and when he wasn't doing that, he was only flying to and from the Edge to keep an eye on things there. It was one of the things that stung the most about his new role, the responsibilities and obligations kept him from doing the thing he loved doing more than anything. He glanced back at the shrinking island behind them, letting out a soft sigh, it was worth it though in the end to see his people thrive the way they were, to build a home not only for them, but for the dragons they now shared the island with. But this was still freeing, and it did wonders to clear the cobwebs from both of their minds as they pinwheeled through the sky, only coming to a halt when he heard the sound of someone else, an exhilarated holler, glancing around to figure out where it had come from. His eyes widened when he spotted the pair, and he couldn't help a thrilled spark in his chest at the sight. He didn't see too many riders just yet who trusted their dragon to do the things he was watching these two do, he grinned wide when the Nadder caught his rider, patting Toothless between his ears, "lets go say hello." The dragon easily caught the mischief in his rider's tone before he took off again, Hiccup leaning forward as flat as he could manage against the dragon's back as they picked up speeds until the pair were leaving a shrieking trail behind them. Toothless let out an overjoyed croon in greeting as the pair shot right by the Nadder and his rider, and his rider couldn't help a giddy laugh as he adjusted his foot to send the Night Fury and himself spinning, Toothless popped his wings out at the last second before settling into a calm glide, taking them back around to face the other rider. "I haven't seen many other riders crazy enough to freefall like that." He smirked, eyeing her curiously, "I've seen you around Berk...Henretta, right?" He'd seen her tailing other dragons rather enthusiastically, but he'd never actually seen her fly, thoroughly impressed by what he'd watched, "what's his name? You two seems to share a lot of trust, you have to, to do things like that...""Hiccup" - "Toothless" | |

The dragon and rider had just begun the climb back up though the clouds to do the move once more when a very familiar sound of a certain dragon and rider pierced her ears, and moment later the pair zoomed past her, causing Gummy to stop his climb and glance around as if the other dragon was a threat. Henry touched her hand to her nadder's head soothingly, "Its okay, just the chief having fun like we are!" She narrowed her eyes as Hiccup and his stunning dragon slowed down to glide beside them, her heart both racing... and sinking. It had been Hiccups father that allowed her to stay on Berk after she "accidentally" forgot to get on her tribes ships, perhaps Hiccup had different plans? Those thought melted when the man spoke, and she let out a sigh of relief. "Just call me Henry." She said with a smile, sitting up since she no longer needed to boot her dragon's speed. "His name is Gummy. He's been my dragon since I came to Berk when I was little," The dragon made a low cooing noise at the mention of his name, "I'm a little known for being crazy, freefalling is as natural to breathing to me, though sometimes I jump to catch Gummy off guard~" Shea admitted with a laugh, earning an unamused growl from below her. "What a handsome boy you have here!" She beamed at the nightfury, clasping a hand over her heart as if it were some precious child she were looking at, to her that's exactly what the dragon was, "I wish I could spot you two in the village more often, Toothless here looks like he could use some belly rubs~" She reached over and gently ran her hand over the top of her own dragons head. "How are things on your end, taking care of our chief?" She asked the ebony dragon, as if he was a human who would give an answer, glancing back up to Hiccup with a beaming smile, "And how is our chief?"

| | He nodded when she gave him a name she preferred to be called, "Henry it is then." He glanced down at the Nadder and gave him a polite bow in greeting, grinning at the pretty beast, "well it's nice to meet you, Gummy, seems you've known each other a long time then!" He had vague memories of her from when he was younger, though he'd never been the most social back then, mostly keeping to himself, "well, we'll be good friends then." He smirked, looking amused by that, "people call me crazy all the time." He looked amused at that annoyed grumble from the dragon, fully believing that this was a common occurrence between the two. The expression that crossed Toothless' face at the high praise was utterly glowing with pride and that special kind of arrogance that only a dragon could manage, he crooned softly and shook his head in a flourish, "he sure seems to thinks so!" He grinned, scratching behind his head, over his neck, "don't worry I think so to, Bud." He glanced to the side at her, chuckling softly, "we're always around somewhere, but I'm pulled nine different directions on any given day." He chuckled, shaking his head, "so catching us is the harder part." He turned his eyes to the Night Fury with a smirk, "well he certainly wont say no to belly rubs, right Bud?" Toothless responded with a chipper growl, turning his attention to the other rider now when she addressed him directly. Living around humans for so long had given him a fairly strong understanding of their language, so when he picked up on what she said, he eyed Hiccup with a look that spoke volumes to the monumental task that was making sure his rider didn't die horribly during one of his many wild ideas, but he made an affectionate sound regardless, "keeping me from killing myself isn't easy, but I couldn't ask for a better brother." His own tone was an affectionate chuckle as he turned back to her, "I've been well, going fairly stir crazy...It's been a while since we've been able to fly like this." He gave her a friendly smile, tilting his head, "and how about you?""Hiccup" - "Toothless" | |

Henry was enthralled that Toothless didn't mind her praise, its always a long shot when it comes to first introductions with dragons. Offering belly rubs and speaking in a baby voice usually works with tame dragons, or easy to tame dragons. Seeing what a nightfury preferred would be a thrill all together! She mentally added bully rubs on the checklist of things she had to try on the chiefs Dragon, almost squealing at the thought. "Same here, if I didn't have Gummy taking care of me then I'd have slipped off a cliff a while ago." She hummed contently at the thought of the first time she thought she'd try to fly like a dragon when she was six and jumped off the cliff, only to have her beloved Gummy rescue her just before she hit the water. ... and then just to test her dragon she did it two more times. "I imagine being the chief is hard." She smiled, giving him an encouraging look, which turned to surprise as he asked about her life. How was she doing? "I've been mulling over joining the riders out on the edge, actually. But... that would mean work- not that I'm lazy, but I've enjoyed all my days with just me and the dragons on Berk... I'm planning on flying out there to scope things out in these next few days." She sighed dreamily and laid on her back, head near the tail of the dragon as she propped her arms behind her head, "What was it like when you were out there, huh? Everyone says you got into all sorts of crazy adventures and trouble, but what was the edge like? What were the dragons like?"

[attr="class","iconimage"] I'll never go down your road I found my way on my own I'm never gonna fall in line, your future is not mine. | Hiccup glanced to the side at her with a wide grin, thoroughly enjoying how into this conversation she seemed to be. It tended to be a hit or miss with some people, sometimes when he babbled like this people would listen attentively, but it was more because their chief was speaking than anything, and sometimes he could just see when someone's eyes glassed over and they zoned out. He knew he could be long winded, but it was still nice to have someone willing to listen.
"He also really likes it when you scratch riiight behind his ear, right here! Turns the big guy into butter."
He demonstrated the place, directly behind his ears, scratching at the spot and earning a blissful expression from the dragon, who let out a gleeful warble. He glanced over at her when she spoke, he could imagine, even from such a short encounter, that that statement was fairly understated. He let out a soft sigh and nodded, giving a hapless shake of his head.
"Understatement...But I can see why my father loved it so much."
His attention was pulled to her when she expressed interest in taking up residence at the Edge, his face brightened and he grinned.
"Yeah! I mean we'd love to have you! I hate that I can't make it that way as often as I'd like to, I think you'd like it though, there's a lot of interesting species out that way."
He could remember the numerous wild and crazy things that had happened out there, all the near deaths and close calls, and really he wouldn't have traded it for anything. Pinpointing exactly what it was like was impossible, because it was a lot of things, his expression softened a little and he chuckled softly, looking her way.
"It was home, it was crazy at all times...We nearly lost the Edge to all kinds of different forces, but y'know, viking built viking made, it was about as stubborn as we were, and so are the dragons that live on the island. You'd like it there, I think."

The woman watched curiously as Hiccup scratched the spot he mentioned, squealing happily at the reaction the dragon gave. Hiccup probably knew as much about dragons as she did! After having such a marvelous dragon for so long, who wouldn't? Henry excitedly listened as she spoke about the edge, though sadly Hiccup only gave her vague details. Of corse she understood, telling a life worth of adventure wasnt something you could just whip up and spit out in a few words. She could just imagine all the insane breeds out there waiting to be tamed and cuddled! "Dragon lover to dragon lover, I think I will like it. You're the guy who put all this together, so I trust your view." She laughed manically, a small snort fitting it's way in there as she sat up on the saddle again, "I dare say you're as crazy as me for doing all the things you've done, convincing dragon murdering villages to become riders and going out in the name of justice of Vikings and dragons alike~ And people call you brave yet foolish everywhere too I bet." She sighed and tilted her head back, "I'll fly out to the edge tomorrow and introduce myself I think. I'll see if they can put up with me, or at the least if they can keep up with me~"

[attr="class","iconimage"] I'll never go down your road I found my way on my own I'm never gonna fall in line, your future is not mine. | He couldn't help for feel her infectious enthusiasm as she reacted strongly to everything, it was incredibly endearing to see this much passion and thirst for learning from someone, and he couldn't help but feel thrilled in turn as he flew alongside her, giving an apologetic laugh when he realized his own explanation had been fairly vague and short worded.
"Sorry, I'll tell you more stories about that place, yeah? But you should ask the others what they have to tell, the Edge isn't just my creation, it's the collective effort of all of the original riders from Berk, their stories are just as valuable as mine."
He was always a man who gave credit where it was due, and his friends deserved every bit as much as he did, he may have set the whole thing into motion years ago, but it was all of them that built the Edge, he chuckled though at the comment of him being crazy and foolish, nodding and thinking back on it.
"It's cost me a lot, in the end, but never once did I question whether it was worth it, I always just knew that it was right, I've learned that you can't get hung up on the consequences of your decisions, because if you do that it'll drive you insane. My father died and my village was damn near destroyed because I thought I knew better, but if I dwell on how much of that was my fault..."
He grinned at the mention of her checking out the edge, nodding enthusiastically as he eyed her from the side, a somewhat challenging expression coming to his face.
"Why wait? We could go check it out now. The question is if you can keep up with us."
He let out a pleased laugh as he nudged Toothless and the pair shot off like a bullet, the dragon mimicking his rider's joy. His challenge was more friendly than actually competitive, he was mostly just ready for some quick moves and crazy maneuvers again.

Henry squealed again as Toothless took off, calling after them as Gummy caught on, diving before coming back up in an attempt to catch speed. "Challenge accepted!" She called out loudly, letting out another howl of laughter, leaning down so her dragon didn't have to fight the extra drag. Of course no nadder could keep up with a nightfury, but at least she was doing good speed wise for what her and Gummy were working with. She leaned over, her dragon following her lead since he was used to the silent command she would give through body actions, and turned upside down. Henry clasped her legs against the holds on the saddle, hands gripping the holds tightly as well before Gummy suddenly shot down, pinwheeling to pick up speed and using his wings to create an arrow like shield around themselves, almost hitting the pines below before they came shooting up once again, upright once more, though Henry was sitting backwards on the saddle as they barely passed Hiccup, she laughed and waved at the boy as she adjusted herself to face forwards again. "Lets see what you've got Hiccup~" She called out in a sing song tone, "You better not disappoint!"

[attr="class","iconimage"] I'll never go down your road I found my way on my own I'm never gonna fall in line, your future is not mine. | Hiccup leaned down flat against the Night Fury's back as he glanced back at her, impressed by the Nadder's speed, but then he'd always known them to be ridiculously fast, Astrid had always been one of the only riders that could effectively keep up with him, she'd even surpassed him plenty of times.
He kept his eyes on her as she flipped upside down, watching the duo pinwheel down through the sky with expert precision, it was impressive how well the worked together, and he would have to remember to ask her how she'd gotten so good with silent commands like that. He smirked when she shot up past him backwards, looking impressed by her performance.
"Impressive! You two move like a single unit, it's amazing to watch!"
He grinned, setting a hand on the top of his own dragon's head before glancing down at him, then back at her, feeling that rush of adrenaline that he loved so much.
"We never disappoint, right Bud?"
Toothless crooned happily, catching Hiccup flicking his eyes up before the dragon began to climb straight up into the sky, gaining altitude until he felt breathless before the pair leveled out.
"you ready?"
When his dragon gave him an affirmative nod, he shifted his metal leg to lock the tail fin into place, carefully getting to his feet on the dragon's back before diving headfirst off of his back, Toothless following close behind as the pair free-fell together, letting out a loud howl as the wind rushed past his face.
When he was confident of his distance from the ground, and Henry, He moved with a fluid motion to pull out the fins and wings of his armor, which pulled him into a fast glide, with Toothless doing the same at his side, he could feel his heart beating out of his chest, the way it always did when he did this, He let out an exhilarated holler as he shifted his arms to spin through the sky.
When he was close enough to the ground, he gestured with his hand and the Night Fury responded quickly, catching his rider easily as he locked himself back into place and pulled them up before they brushed the pines, coming to meet Henry with a glowing grin.
"Well, I hope we didn't disappoint!"

The brunette woman's glasses nearly fell off her shocked and amazed face as Dragon and rider became dragon and fellow flyer. Gummy let out confused squaks, as he hadn't ever seen a flying human before. Henry howled as she watched, shifting and almost bouncing with excitement as the pair came by her side once more. "Ah! Amazing~!" She breathed out the praise, adjusting her goggle like glasses and tightening the strap out of habit, "Designing your own pair of wings to fly along side your dragon kin, I'm jealous~ of course, if I had my own wings then Gummy here wouldn't have to worry about catching me~" She said the last bit of her words in a baby voice, petting Gummys head as he crooned happily, wings flapping to give him a little more glide momentum before he leveled out again. "You two have a bond as close as Gummy and me. That's something special~ Not any rider can just have a dragon that trusts them and that they trust, I'm sure you appreciate him as much as he appreciates that tail." She pointed out the tail contraption Hiccup had made, she knew all about the story of how he came across Toothless and helped the downed dragon fly again. "You're an inventor and a master flyer. I envy you~"

[attr="class","iconimage"] I'll never go down your road I found my way on my own I'm never gonna fall in line, your future is not mine. | His expression became flustered and a little embarrassed at her high praise, it was still something he was wholly unused to even after so many years, and his reply was spoken in a sheepish kind of voice as he turned his expression away, laughing softly and running a hand through his hair to rub at the back of his neck.
"I think sometimes Toothless here wishes I hadn't, there were a lot of...Well hiccups along the way. But those bruises and sprains were worth it I think."
The Night Fury responded with a roll of his eyes and a sound that was clearly sarcastic, he could remember all of the spills and close calls he'd had to rescue the crazy boy from in the process of perfecting the flight suit, he could remember all the well deserved scoldings from his rider's girlfriend as well when he nearly broke his neck. Hiccup gave Toothless a fond smile, leaning down to give him an affectionate hug around his giant head as he crooned softly at him.
"I wanted him to be able to fly without me, it was my fault he was grounded in the first place, I owed it to him to give him his freedom back when I'm gone. After everything he's done for me...I owe everything to him."
There was a sound of protest from the dragon at the thought, and Hiccup's expression was somber for a moment before it brightened up again at her praise, his cheeks coloring a little as he laughed it off.
"I just do what I know, I always have, I screw up everything else every other day but...At least I've got some uses."

Henry put her hands on her hips and raised a brow. "Hiccup Haddock," She spoke as sharply as if a mother scolding a child, her brows furrowed even though she was giving an encouraging smile, "You don't screw anything up. You fix things, so what if you brought him down? You fixed it. Any other Viking would have killed him at the time, and had that happened then none of us would be where we are today." If she were closer she would have punched the boys shoulder, affectionate yet attention grabbing, but they were both on dragon back so the motion was impossible. She made a mental note to do something once they were on land. "I may be off my rocks but I know a few things, people under pressure make the most mistakes, and the mistakes they make end up bringing the most out of them. Name one thing that was your fault that you didn't jump to your feet again to fix, or name something a friend of yours has done that you didn't try and help with?" She sat side saddle on her dragon, leaning over the farthest she could without slipping, "I'm starting to think you're the only one that doubts yourself."

[attr="class","iconimage"] I'll never go down your road I found my way on my own I'm never gonna fall in line, your future is not mine. | His attention was effectively grabbed by the sharpness in her tone when she said his name, and he couldn't seem to meet her eyes for a solid few minutes as she spoke. She was right, even if he had trouble convincing himself of that, he'd always been a fixer, even when the situation was bleak and seemed impossible to fix, he always tried, even when the solution was crazy and dangerous. He let out a soft sigh and nodded, finally pulling his eyes to meet hers with a defeated smile.
"Well...I learned a long time ago that I'm not any other viking, it used to be what people hated me for. I guess it's just hard to forget that. I used to be my father's burden to bear...It's hard to forget."
His smile softened a little and he nodded, looking back ahead with a much less defeated expression, much more determined. He couldn't even begin to put a number on his mistakes, but his mistakes had mostly ended with things better than they started...Mostly.
"You're right, I feel like I owe it to everyone to give everything of myself, even if it kills me in the end."
He turned a smirk at her, amused by the truth in that statement, he'd always been harder on himself than anyone else, or that's how it tended to be nowadays, it was always as if he was filling the silence where everyone's disapproval had been before.
"That's probably the truest thing I've heard said about me..."

Henry seemed content with the response to her mother like scolding, if one could call it that. She only knew Hiccup from stories and what other people had said, but so far they seemed to be right. She still wanted to know him for who he was herself though, she loved nothing more than to have her own opinions. Gummy lifted up slightly as she leaned forwards more, already aware of what she was about to do, and Henry jumped from her Dragon, landing on the nightfury behind Hiccup with a laugh, "Hope you don't mind me getting a look at you, I couldn't resist getting a chance to ride on a nightfury and size you up." She said and tilted her body gently, as to not affect their flight, and began to grope Hiccup's arm, brows furrowed in thought as she meddled with his biceps all the way down to his hand, even taking leisure to examine his fingers and nails before moving to the other arm, her grip tight enough to show that she was taking a look whether he minded or not, though not tight enough to hurt. She occasionally mumbled something under her breath along the lines of, "Strong." Or "not what I expected." Before finally pulling back and scratching her head, "You look nothing like how people describe you on either end of the spectrum of stories I've heard." She smiled brightly. "Of course Vikings tend to exaggerate whence telling stories don't they? Half the people have told me Toothless was twenty feet long and had blue eyes- so I'm glad I get to clear things up myself."
