| | It was that time of year between the really miserable winter, and regular winter, where the weather was borderline pleasant, or it was considered pleasant for Berkians, who were used to bundling up at any given time to avoid shivering their skin off. The waters were even nice enough to swim in some parts of the island, but that wasn't entirely at the forefront of the young chief's thoughts as he surveyed the damages from the latest fiasco, a disagreement between a group of highly territorial Monstrous Nightmares, which had been a rather rude awakening in the wee hours of the morning, he'd been lucky enough that they'd been easy to chase off, it was hard to argue with a Night Fury after all. He could see where a few homes were still smoldering, smoke rising from what was left of a couple that hadn't quite made it, in the list of bad things that had happened since he'd taken up the mantle of chief, this was probably pretty up there, but in true Berk fashion, his village was already hard at work rebuilding, putting out fires where they still burned slightly, it made him proud to see how solidly his people could come together, he'd only just returned from relocating the group, and he was just now starting to figure out where he might be useful in lending a hand. Hiccup ran a hand through his hair in a worried gesture as he glanced back at the Night Fury tailing him, "I guess the peace and quiet couldn't last forever, huh Bud? Wouldn't be Berk without a disaster now and then..." He'd hitched the dragon to a cart that was filled with sturdy logs, taking them wherever they might be needed, it was the least he could do for the moment, offering a hand or advice where it was needed as he made his rounds. Smoke billowing up from the many huts and buildings across Berk's islands wouldn't have been so odd for those use to seeing the sight. Particularly those incidents that came with dragons always having a scuffle in the middle of the town or near it, a familiar sight Heather could see from upon Windshear's back as the Razorwhip soared towards the familiar island for the first time in two years. Things didn't seem so different from afar, but the closer the two got the more she could see that some things had changed, more so with Berk seeming to be larger than she remembered and the surrounding area looked more well-kept but still thriving as ever.
"Seems like Berk is more alive than we were last here huh Windshear?" Heather commented, the Razorwhip giving a soft growl in reponse, casting a quick glance to her rider to show she agreed. The two showed some reflected awe and curiosity, wondering what else had changed since their absence from the islands this far off. Resting a hand gently on the metallic dragon's neck, Windshear gave another soft growl, arching her form slightly before diving down towards the village below, the sunlight reflecting off her scales and off Heather's own armored bits, the young woman holding tight as her dragon companion went into her steep dive. Above the wind she could hear others speaking up about a visitor, no doubt pointing in their direction as Windshear leveled out, her wings giving scraping sounds from the metal.
Once she had slowed her desecent, the Razorwhip flared her wings a few times before making a landing in the Village Proper and Heather leaned up straight to take in her surroundings. She noted there was quite a bit of rebuilding going on and the smell of freshly burned wood filled the air, Windshear confirming this with sniffing noises. "Wonder what happened here." Heather murmured, Windshear snorting and narrowing her gaze of where she had caught the scent of other dragons, ones of hostility. Heather had an idea of what might had happened, but for now she patted Windshear before dismounting from the saddle and dropping beside her dragon companion, her green gaze scanning the Proper until she zeroed in on a familiar dragon.
Those shiny, ebony black scales and wing structure were not difficult to miss and the one standing ahead was no doubt someone of equal recognition. "Still attracting trouble I see Hiccup, guess some things never change." Heather spoke up, a large smile showing on her face as she approached, Windshear strolling close to her hip, letting out a small greeting towards the Night Fury. "And Toothless still tolerating your obnoxious commands?" Heather teased, giving the Night Fury a playful grin. Tags: Hiccup Notes: The visit is going to go down the drain

| | He was caught off guard by his dragon's excited warbling, the Night Fury clearly having spotted the flash of silver before his rider did, "what is it?" He followed his eyes before his own caught the familiar form, widening considerably, "Is that..." He couldn't help the grin that stretched from ear to ear at the welcomed sight of an old friend, "Heather!" He made quick work of unhooking Toothless from the cart he'd been helping to haul around, the pair quick to hustle to where she'd touched down. It had been two years since he'd last seen or heard anything from Heather, and he couldn't deny that he'd been worried about her, "It's been ages!" He laughed, then looked back to the various spots where things still burned and smoked, "you don't know the half of it." He shook his head, "it wouldn't be Berk without a disaster now and then, would it?" That was the understatement of the century, he realized, and there were a lot of things she'd missed. He turned to the Night Fury with a smirk at her words, "aw he loves it, right Bud?" The black dragon's response was a playful warble and a slap to the back of his head with a wing, the young chief smirked and shoved at the dragon, which did little to budge him, "c'mon grumpy, that's not way to treat your chief!" He glanced back at Heather with a sincere smile, "it's really good to see you again, Heather, I was kind of starting to worry." He shrugged and looked to the side, "not that it was well founded, given you can handle yourself...But still." He ran a hand through his hair, "you know me." If he wasn't worrying he wasn't happy, Astrid had said that to him once or twice. He chuckled "as for the current disaster you've stumbled into, a pack of Monstrous Nightmares had a bit of a dispute last night." He sighed through his nose, "which would be fine, if it wasn't right in the middle of the village..." He couldn't count the amount of times the village had been rebuilt by now, they'd gotten impressively quick at it by now. "Hiccup" - "Toothless" @heather | |

"Ages? It's only been two years." Heather chuckled softly, "But I suppose it feels like an eternity when you're separated from good friends." Heather wasn't afraid to admit that she held some regret for her sudden leave two years back, leaving behind those who had impacted her life in ways she could never imagine. The Hooligan clan may have had their flaws, some more than others (Snotlout especially), but they had more than proven themselves to be the friends and family she could rely upon, despite what she had done to them.
Yet, she couldn't help shaking her head in disbelief, "Not sure what I should be more impressed with. That Berk is still standing in one piece rather than a pile of ash or that you guys prevent all out war among the dragons here. You definitely have a gift Hiccup." Heather remarked, watching with amusement as the two continued their same antics. Certainly some things never changed, which was a welcoming sight for someone like Heather. It meant not everything was different nor completely changed from what they were. Windshear next to her gave a rumbling sound akin to an amused laugh of her own, her bladed tail flicking back and forth in excitement.
Half of what Hiccup said after his one remark completely got thrown out the window however, her own eyes widening in shock at what he had just said. In fact, she was wondering if she heard Hiccup right at all. Chief? "Whoa, wait a minute. Back up just a moment," She raised her hands, shaking her head as she tried to wrap her mind around what she had just heard. "Did you just say chief? Since when were you chief?" She asked, a million questions now crossing her mind as Windshear tilted her head with a puzzled look on her towards her rider. "Did Stoick finally feel you were ready? I mean, how is? What else have I missed since I left?" The words flooded out before Heather could think to stop herself, even having an edge of curiosity and excitement to catch up.
But another one popped into her mind, giving a sly smirk, "You and Astrid finally tie the knot in my absence?" Her jab was simply that, poking some fun at old friends but at the same time there was a genuine look of wonder in her eyes. She had noticed how close the two seemed during the duration she was staying with the dragon riders of Berk. Tags: Hiccup Notes: N/A

| | There was genuine surprise on his face when she admitted that it'd only been two years, and he let out a soft breath of disbelief, rubbing a hand over the back on his neck, "only two years? Feels like it's been a lot longer..." He supposed it was because of the sheer amount of things that had happened in that span of time, things that weighed down and made him feel a lot older than he was. He put a hand on her shoulder with a sincere smile, "it's good to see you back though, you know you're always welcome here!" He grinned, a welcoming smile that punctuated his words. He turned at her words to look over the village, laughing and shaking his head softly, "rampaging dragons we can handle...It's other people that scare me more..." He let out a heavy sigh, "but there's something to be said for tenacity and stubbornness, and Berk is certainly both of those things..." That had barely been a year ago, he realized, "a gift that causes more harm than good sometimes, but that might be less my gift and more the way disaster seems to attract to me..." He felt like more of a danger to Berk than any outside source sometimes. Hiccup seemed completely caught off guard when she stopped him, and her questioning caused his expression to drop, the cheer fading from his face as he glanced to the side, "yeah...My father he, uh, Stoick was killed." He couldn't help the look that trailed to Toothless, his hand running over the Night Fury's head, He couldn't help the thick lump of hurt in his voice, "it was an accident...But..." He trailed off and gave a half hearted laugh, "a lot has happened since you left." The subject of Astrid brought him back to the present a little, and his cheeks peppered with a blush, "w-what?! I mean..." He ran a hand through his hair and over the back of his neck, suddenly keen to change the subject, "y-you must be hungry!" His voice heightened and cracked a little, that question was complicated for a lot of reasons beyond just himself and the fiery woman, and it wasn't something he was quite ready to approach with Heather of all people, given the third party involved in the comedic drama that had become his life. "Suppose in a place like this tenacity is the only driving force to survive." Heather agreed in a soft tone, giving a final glance over the damaged buildings close by. She knew all too well what it was like to have to be tenacious and push through rough times just to survive, something she still was keenly aware of despite all she had accomplished to leave that life behind her. There was still that nagging, ghostly feelings of fear that she would once more know what it was like to be in the cold grip of loneliness and rage. She couldn't help giving a slight shudder at knowing that anger still lurked, the Unhinged aspect ready to come forth should she let slip her carefully constructed persona.
But she snapped her gaze back to Hiccup when he began speaking, concern showing in her eyes when she noticed the happiness soon leave his face and she soon knew why. "Hiccup, that's...I'm sorry, I didn't know." Heather apologized, feeling bad for allowing her excitement to catch up on old times get the better of her rather than considering everything. It was her turn to place a hand on his shoulder, giving the faintest smile, "I'm truly sorry for your loss," She followed his gaze towards Toothless, wondering if maybe the black dragon had something to do with this accident. "No matter how it happened. And just know I'm here if you ever need anything." She tried to be reassuring, knowing the horrible pain of losing family.
Although, there was still one in particular of family she was still on the fence about, which happened to be Dagur. She hadn't spoken with him in some time nor seen him in fact. What he was up to these days was a mystery to her, but she didn't know the full extent of just how close she might to finding that out.
"Complicated still, huh?" Heather's teasing was still good-natured and a playful grin returned to her features, trying to push aside the sorrow she felt for the loss of another friend. Besides it didn't seem Hiccup was so keen to elaborate on the subject, seeming uncomfortable as ever about it. When would those two just admit what they felt? Heather simply shook these thoughts aside, chuckling at the offer of food in a rather higher pitched, cracked voice Hiccup gave. "If you have some to spare. Me and Windshear have been flying for a while, we could use a decent meal." Heather answered in a grateful tone, even relieved since hunger had begun to nag at her with the adrenaline of her excitement ebbing away. [/b][/div] Tags: Hiccup Notes: ---

| | The wound left behind by his father's death still felt raw and painful when he really stopped and considered it, the man had plenty of golden years in front of him, retired and living easy, but the longer he thought about it, he more he wondered if he'd of been happy like that, "my father wouldn't have wanted to go out any other way." He laughed, a small, mournful laugh, "he wouldn't have been content with a quiet death." He audibly swallowed down a hard lump of emotion in his throat, then cleared it and smiled at her, "I appreciate it, Heather, it's...A lot...Trying to fill shoes I could never hope to fill." He looked around and brushed a hand through his hair, "feels like they expect me to...Be him...And I can't. I can only do what I would do." He turned a brighter smile at her, "but we're doing a lot of growing up, Berk's been behind for long enough, it's been an ongoing task for the better part of the year getting this place where it's at." He couldn't help the pride in his voice, for his island and his people. He laughed and nodded, sharing a glance with Toothless, "and even that's putting it mildly." He knew that Heather could probably do little to assist with the situation he found himself in, but he'd been holding on to this mess all on his own, and it would end up coming to light sooner or later, "it's beyond complicated, but if I'm going to go into details about that, it's gonna be later. When it's just us." For now, he smiled and waved a hand for her an Windshear to follow, "we've got more than enough, the hall should be set up for lunch by now anyway, we can beat everyone there so you can have your fill!" Toothless gave a pleased sound at the prospect of food, tailing his rider eagerly. "Hiccup" - "Toothless" @heather | |

"I think Berk's people want to see what you can bring to the table all your own Hiccup." Heather suggested, trying to sound a lot more positive rather than allowing her sorrow to show and cause Hiccup even further sadness. "Stoick had his own way of leading Berk, and he was a good chief. But, you will fill those large shoes in your own way and make an even greater impression." Heather told him, already feeling he was well on his way to doing just that. After all, what he had accomplished already in his lifetime was more than just something small, it could be considered a change for the history books with the way he had inspired Vikings and Dragons to work together there in the Archipelago.
She gave a slight grin as she followed Hiccup and Toothless, Windshear prancing after them with excitement to have a meal and giving excited warbles of her own. "Guess I'm not the only one eager to eat." Heather mused, stroking the metal-scaled dragon's shoulder, earning an affectionate growl in response. Though she couldn't help the curious glance she shot Hiccup, wondering if the brunette before her and the blond female Viking she had come to befriend were having problems or something else had happened in her absence. It did make her recall when she had called off her relationship with Fishlegs, having felt she might be needed for the Berserkers and that priority meant she might not be able to have that deep connection she once had. "No rush to tell, there are definitely other things to catch up with over lunch." She assured him as they made their way to the meeting hall. Tags: Hiccup Notes: ---

[attr="class","iconimage"] I'll never go down your road I found my way on my own I'm never gonna fall in line, your future is not mine. | He allowed a smile at her words, letting out a soft breath and nodding as they walked, "you're right, thanks, I guess it's just hard to convince myself of that sometimes." He ran a hand through his hair, shaking his head, "it's...Hard sometimes...To look back on everything that's happened...Feels like watching through someone else's eyes." He'd always had trouble attributing his own accomplishments to himself, old habits died hard, and he would probably always have trouble forgetting the kind of person he'd been, the way people had seen him then, he trusted his friends and his people, of course he did, but no one had given him the time of day until he damn near killed himself...And it scared him wondering how easy it would be for him to lose all their respect, if it wasn't for Toothless where would he even be? Dead, most likely.
The dragon at his side seemed to sense his rider's stumbling thoughts as he bumped his nose up under his arm, the man's expression softened and he chuckled, running his hand over his nose and leaning down to press his cheek against his head as they walked, giving him silent reassurance that he was okay. He glanced up when Heather commented on Windshear being hungry, grinning, "I bet! Seems like you two have probably been flying a while!" He tried not to notice the look she shot him, he would tell her what was going on eventually, but right now he was more concerned with catching up with an old friend, "oh for sure!" He grinned, pushing the doors to the Hall in so the other three could go in, "you'll have to see the Academy, we've really busted our backs with it." He gestured animatedly with his hands as he spoke, something he always seemed to do, "we've built it up, it's a proper dragon training space now, rather than an arena!" He gestured out, "we've built a wild racing course as well!" His eyes sparked with excitement as he babbled, only noticing it after a moment, "I'm rambling, sorry...I'm just...Really happy to have you back here."

"Guess that's another thing we seem to share." Heather commented, knowing such a feeling all too well. Looking back on those days sometimes felt like she was looking through a stranger's eyes, like the person she had once been, how she treated Hiccup and their friends, her own brother, was but a stranger to her. A stranger that still lurked deep down and sometimes felt like a totally different personality she couldn't control at times. The worst part was that Heather knew she would never be fully rid of that side of herself, the one that was always hanging on the precipice of losing control and maintaining that Berserker side.
By reflex, Heather pressed closer to Windshear, hooking an arm over the dragon's slim neck as Windshear turned her head to nuzzle her rider's shoulder. Uneasy thoughts seemed to abound for them and it was harder for Heather to hide them than the likes of Hiccup. He always seemed to be able to find a way to hide his true emotions, something she could commend him for. "Several hours to be specific." Heather replied, her solemn expression quickly returning to a broad grin and the Razorwhip beside her seemed to relax, lifting her own head to look towards Toothless and Hiccup as the riders exchanged their words. "Think we haven't eaten since this morning come to think of it." She chuckled, knowing she could probably eat a whole Buffalord and no doubt Windshear felt the same.
Once the door opened, the two followed Hiccup and Toothless inside, seeing not much had changed for the building, not entirely anyway. But Heather found a seat as she became attentive to Hiccup once more, eyes widening at hearing they were finally successful in creating the academy they had been talking about for some time now. "That's great news! I've been wondering how that was going." Heather spoke, excitement showing in her eyes. "Already took one of my questions right out of the gate Hiccup, must be a mind reader." Her grin only got bigger when racing was mentioned and even Windshear perked her head up slightly. "You gotta let us know when the next race is, we'll be the judge of how well they hold up." Heather said with smug confidence, smugness that could almost equal her brother's own but there was still the hint of friendliness at such competition. Valka was seeing to repairs with Gobber, the building had sparked questions about building new homes entirely, as the villiage was growing even with many of the children moving to the edge to be dragon riders. Of course she saw Hiccup land with some young woman who looked to be his age, another rider for sure, so she went to go introduce herself, bringing her bucket of tools with her since she planned to get right back to work after a quick introduction. She followed the pair into the messhall, "You didn't mention any friends with black hair and... " Valka dropped the bucket of tools, and opened her mouth to speak, "You... You look just like Heather." She said and stepped forwards quickly, going to touch the girl's face before she stopped, "... No, you are Heather." Valka glanced to Hiccup, eyes wide and starting to water, "How are you alive?"
